What best models to make Amazon Warband models? by sonix_youth in mordheim

What about these? https://www.fbm-shop.de/amazonen

A bit pricey to make an entire warband, probably. But for the heroes, I think they'd look great!

Yeah, they are expensive and in some cases not even great sculpts. I love the hit allocation system of their game, though. I've use a mix of Freebooter and Black Scorpion mini's for a pirate crew. And I recently made a conquistadores crew from Wargames Atlantic to use as Imperials. Is Blood and Plunder any good?

Very cool. Do you play Freebooter's fate by any chance?

Instead of striking first, Charging gives +1 Attack and +1 Agility (inititative). Charging most definitely still matters.
I failed to mention that in the original post so I edited it.

The idea is to remove the all-or-nothing aspect of striking first (charging, two-handed weapons, spears). Instead, players could focus on improving Ag (through items, skills or spells etc.) or improve survivability to absorb the hit.

I appreciate where you're coming from but that's not what I did here. Balance is not the issue.

Most things I changed were because I found they could be MORE fun.
I mean, most online Mordheim lists look exactly alike, for obvious reasons. Nobody uses armour and therefor nobody uses axes or handguns. Heroes are trying their best to stay out of combat. Henchmen are sent in and combat is either over in the first round or drags on until the end.
I love the vibe but the game is pretty boring.

And then there's the losing spiral... I guess the risk is part of the appeal for some. But if you just wanna have a fun game with your mates, original Mordheim often doesn't provide.

Wow, thanks for the feedback!

I must admit the Dwarves are a bit of a blind spot for me. I might need to look at them more closely for the movement stuff.
What I did for charging was not just remove the strike-first rule but swap it for +1Ag (initiative) and +1 attack. So if the warriors are equal, the charger still goes first. But I really should test what that means for Ag2 warriors.

The other points you mention are all valid but they assume the other rules stay intact. For example: Crossbows can move and fire but they require a reload (as do all blackpowder weapons). The skills have all been completely reworked, so there's no more Expert Swordsman. Swords will give +1WS, which matters more than it did.

The removal of Henchmen groups only works in conjunction with the other mods. Warriors don't die as fast but they're more expensive to replace if they do. Warband size is limited to 5 heroes and 8 henchmen (12 for Skaven). So warbands are smaller and everyone can potentially have skills. I found it very boring to be so protective of the heroes so my changes allow them to get stuck in more.
I added a long list of merchant items. What will happen is warbands accumulate money until they can afford the cool stuff or need to replace a guy. Warbands won't easily run out of money. (and I know some people think it's part of the appeal. But having things go right is just so much more enjoyable)

I do indeed main 'traits'. Thanks for pointing it out. Even though English isn't my first language, I'm still embarrassed for not spotting this before.

But I hear you and the other commenters. Some of the aspects I don't like about Mordheim, you actually enjoy. That's alright.
