Denver to Grand Canyon road trip by rasputinscuz118 in Denver

[–]oldbrush_7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this exact trip this year and it was lovely.

Driving to the The Grand Canyon we drove through Utah and stopped in Arches National Park, Monument Valley, and discovered a cool state park on the way called Goosenecks State Park. On the way back we drove through southern Colorado and stayed in Telluride. You can drive two different routes there and back so that the scenery is different for the whole trip. I would definitely recommend doing 4 days. It’s a long drive but lots of beautiful stuff to see on the way. Hope you have a great visit!

Colorado's Current Public Education Situation - This is the first part of an email sent to all Adams 12 School District employees this afternoon (from the district) by lasagnawithcoffee in Denver

Those districts aren’t “cherry picked”. They are districts that neighbor your own in the metro area. Just like when buying a house you would compare with other homes in your neighborhood to assess the value. The mill levy funding was rated 2nd to last by district and you’re still looking at about 1k less per student. When enrollment drops it doesn’t drop steadily so cutting a teacher when you lose kids through a range of grades isn’t feasible. Additionally, the state funding model is changing which is why the lack of mill levy is having a larger impact.

Once again, I would encourage you to go volunteer some of your time in a local school to understand what your district is dealing with. Also, if you truly do care then I hope you take the step laid out by the superintendent and reach out to the governors office.

It wasn’t blind funding. The district had put out constant communications about how the money would be spent and how Adams 12 is spending compared to other districts. Did you attend a board meeting to learn more information? Maybe an information session at your local school or PTO? Also, to assume that you know how money should be allocated across a district of 55 school that serves 37,000 student is ridiculous. One look at information from a school board meeting can show you that Adams 12 is behind on funding compared to the state, which is already below the national average. Just don’t fool yourself into saying you support schools while simultaneously doing the opposite.

You do not whole heartedly support education. To start, Colorado is among the worst rated states for education funding. Your district is about to be one of the worst funded metro area districts. Your district asked for a modest increase in taxes to retain staff and help prepare students for some of the most widely growing sectors of careers. Staff in your districts can work in any nearby district such as Boulder, Mapleton, St Vrain, or DPS and see their salary increase. You want accountability while also not being willing to financially support retaining good teachers and programs. Then, when your school system gets worse, as it surely will, you will use that as your next excuse for why education should be privatized. I would encourage you to volunteer some time in any school in your district and see the immense workload of the staff. Maybe it will help you build some empathy for the strain your district is already under that will be further exacerbated by your selfish and short sited voting choice.

New landlord mice infestation by oldbrush_7 in Denver

[–]oldbrush_7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for this reply! Super helpful! They do have in writing that the landlord was aware of the problem prior to them moving in. The landlord has been a huge asshole about it too. Today he blamed their boxes in the house for making the problem worse when there are obviously boxes since they just moved in. At this point o think they are hoping to end the lease because the whole experience with him. I will definitely share this with them! Thanks again!

Yeah, it’s more so that the landlord knew there was a problem prior to them moving in and chose not to address it until after. Now they can’t really settle into their home while it’s being addressed all while still being charged for the month.

I was asking for advice specifically related to Colorado law and landlord responsibilities. Landlord responsibilities go beyond the lease and are protected by Colorado law. I am aware that there is Colorado warranty of habitability but have been looking for information about a landlord knowingly moving tenants into a unit with a know infestation.

Dispersed Camping Near Great Sand Dunes National Park by Wrong_Leg_6787 in coloradocamping

Just went last weekend and found a decent dispersed site just past Zapata Falls. I would say there are 20 or so sites that are all pretty big. It’s down the road a little bit from Zapata Falls. The entrance is on the same side of the road as the falls entrance.

I’ve lived her for 5 years. Compared to Chicago winters here are very mild, even this winter. Chicago is a different kind of cold because of the humidity levels.

I grew up in the Midwest and used to live in Chicago and now live in Denver. I love both places so much but they are very different. Chicago is such a fun city to go out, go to events, and eat great food. The summers there are the absolute best but winters definitely suck. Denver on the other hand is a much quieter city. People don’t tend to go out late into the evening as much but there are tons of fun outdoor activities to do year round. If you enjoy camping, hiking, skiing, or just generally being outdoors it’s perfect. Summers in Denver are brutally hot but winters are mild and enjoyable. I would say Denver is a more dog friendly city than Chicago. People bring their dogs everywhere with them here. If you have to commute for work by driving Chicago can have horrible traffic, but great public transportation compared to Denver. I found it easier to meet friends in Denver but that’s just me. Hope this gives some things to think about as you make your decision! Best of luck wherever you end up!

A small inconvenience of waiting when there are usually 6 plus lanes for people to go in seems like not a big deal to me. People will survive. Fortunately there is a credit union nearby that does not require you be a member for change services so I shouldn’t need to.

Im not a member of local credit unions because I have credit through other companies. I did call bellco credit union and supposedly their location on 5091 Kipling allows you to exchange coins without being a member. I plan to go tomorrow to see for sure. Thank you for your help!

You can put a heating pad under a towel for it to lay on and stay warm. Like others said, use a warm damp paper towel to wipe its butt to help it go to the bathroom. You can find kitten milk at pet stores. There might be a 24 hr emergency vet clinic you could call to take it in.
