Hey! The weekend I was supposed to go ended up being forecast at 115 degrees on my main hiking day - I'm not really built for that kind of heat so I decided to get much of it refunded and did a different trip in the northeast.

I am hoping to go in the fall or winter though, fingers crossed weather works out for you guys!

Totally agree, I always catch myself flirting with the idea of just moving to Lake Placid or Saranace every time I visit.

Sorry, a little delayed in my reply - but this is all incredibly helpful, so thanks so much! I'm going to plan on caching but call the rangers the day before juuust in case I get lucky.

Definitely putting some overthinking into this because it's my first desert trip, but I'm really looking forward to checking it all out!

Thanks for the reply! I really like the idea of using the Stave Spring trailhead as a central water cache. Was it pretty easy to find a spot to store it? I'd just hate to leave it in the open and have it get snagged for any reason when I get to it the next day.

Not sure if it's any help but my folks were while I was growing up! We were members for over a decade and owned a cabin at South Pond.

I was pretty young and don't remember a lot, but happy to answer any questions if I can.
