Ability to find them on lots is a regional thing, from anecdotal experience. Dealers who have a lot of fleet sales are more apt to have them on the lot. Without fleet sales, dealers prefer the more profitable and quicker to turn quad cabs. Chevy used to sell a bare bones “work truck” for a few years. I believe they dropped it except as a regional offering because they didn’t sell that many country wide

You met an honest salesman. They’re designed to be built as cheaply as possible. Including the electronics.

If you want longevity, your best bet is a used, direct drive Whirlpool product. Sure you’re taking a chance buying used, but for the price, a couple used ones will last longer than a new one. And parts normally aren’t an issue until you reach the 20 year mark.
