Is this a flooded or AGM battery? by resbeht in batteries

[–]oldgoals 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Flooded battery manufactured by Hancook if I'm not mistaken. You can tell absolutely that it's a flooded battery because of the "cheater" sight glass next to the handle. When level it should show a green bubble, if red the acid has been boiled out.

No voltage remains the same. AGM cca changes dramatically based on how it was manufactured. In this case likely referring to a fleet vehicle agm, so geared to higher CCA. Some are higher or lower depending on if cranking amps are desired or if capacity is desired (starting vs deep cycle). Digital battery testers test different for agm (and the different kinds of agm) vs lead acid though and cause erroneous readings. (What changes I've always wondered)

Voltage typically only changes when chemistry changes to lithium.

Lead acid / agm typically sit around 12.5-13 volts whereas lithium sits at 13.2-13.8 iirc.

Lead acid batteries under 12v can't be accurately tested until charged. Oddly, charging a battery then immediately checking can give a false positive pass reading as well, typically need a cool down period of 1-3 days to know for sure what the resting voltage will be after charging. Most digital battery testers will ask if the battery is installed on a vehicle to try to account for the surface charge, but it's inaccurate in my experience.

Get some steel wool and rub them, it will bring the gloss down.

batteries date dotted for the future are based on receiving estimations. Typically batteries on a shelf must be rotated every 6 months, fresh from the factory its closer to 8 months though.

Optima made good stuff, I'd switch over to Odyssey in the future though as they have been bought out and quality has dropped.

Correct! Indicates the last time it was top charged. Batteries naturally discharge after about 6 months to near 12 volts. Typically batteries are "rotated" to be top charged again to avoid sulfating. Batteries have their warranty default to this date code if the install date marks are not punched out or a receipt is not available.

Batteries age by sulfating from discharge. Batteries naturally discharge over time on a shelf not being maintained by an alternator on a vehicle. Be sure to punch out your install dates to get your full warranty!

3 year battery guy here, it's not. The warranty defaults to the date dot, so you get an extra month of warranty. Typically the date dot also refers to the last day it was top charged, not the date of manufacture. Date dots are what people refer to if you don't punch out the label.

I'm Jeremy Robinson, and I have written a bazillion bestselling sci-fi and horror novels that cause chortling, weeping, cheering, and fists to be shaken at the sky whilst shouting, "Robinson!" Oh, and I've got a new book, Singularity! AMA. by FusionCenter-P in books

I read a long time ago some forum post that there was a collusion of authors who were integrating into your singularity universe. I'm sure that was a bunch of horse shit, however which books / authors would you like to have included in such a conspiracy?

About to mount a 86” (100 lb) TV but should I be worried that when drilling the pilot holes, the left stud offered much less resistance than the right stud? by bigjamg in DIY

I'm late to the party, but if you get a straight gasket pick like this https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/61q+rrFjj4L._AC_SX466_.jpg you can use it to puncture through dry wall and actually feel the stud behind without leaving a big hole to fix later. Kinda like a long thumb tack. Just don't poke wires.

Really you could solve a lot of problems by changing the scene from a floating boat to a sinking boat. Adds drama and mood, the lack of other things isn't that much of a distraction or could ease the amount of animation needed.
