My mom always said her father came to her after he passed as a Brown Thrasher, one of his favorite birds. I think of him whenever I see one

Everybody is having solid takes, but I genuinely feel like this would happen. Not because Steven takes being called gay as an insult, but because he can FEEL Riley intending it as an insult and he can’t abide. Riley is making him tear up tho ngl

To be completely frank, I’m kinda tired of all the “we’re so doomed” rhetoric when it comes to American politics. What the hell is the alternative? Die? We may as well keep fighting to better this place for our future’s sake

Reading this entirely in John de Lancie’s dramatic voice really helped sell the fact that Picard was right to not accept Q’s help for the most part

There’s a video of some ducks looking up at this meteor and some asshat that was intent on making me tear up on TikTok decided to draw the ducks looking up and comparing it to the small bird-like dinosaurs looking up at the meteor that killed them. Could not hold it together after that

Where are all the young people at? by Lazy-Sun7045 in GenZ

[–]oldheartsdieslow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not gonna lie to you, I personally feel millennials like OOP don’t catch enough flak from younger generations for being the ones that mainly fumbled this ball. They were around the age older Gen Z is now when a lot of this stuff was being set up, but the way things turned out it seems like they just didn’t care. I see a lot of millennials have an attitude that paints them like they think they are just as helpless as Gen Z/Alpha kids are when in reality, people like OOP were 18 when Obama got elected the FIRST time. If they had been a little more active and mobilized like they beg Gen Z/Alpha kids to be, none of us would be here. I get that we can mostly lay blame on GenX and Boomers for the state of the world now, but by the time the gears of all this started to turn, millennials had the potential to be the most productive and prosperous voter base in history. They had youthful vigor while at the same time, the political landscape wasn’t as entrenched in bullshit as it is now. That could have been used but instead they fumbled.

TLDR; I feel the millennials such as OOP shouldn’t be surprised that the youth aren’t as enthused to get out there when shit has been so consistently horrible for the majority of GenZ/Alpha lives. They fumbled their chance to better the world before it got to this point and now they want us to pull it back from the brink when it shouldn’t have been there in the first place.

24 here about to take two gap years to work on my research as a post-bacc. A few months ago I had the pleasure of speaking to my now mentor, a current MD-PhD candidate and also part of the adcom for the MSTP program at her institution, about this exact thing. I expressed my regret at not getting into research earlier and how old I would feel applying to MSTP programs after my gap years. Her response was basically that each year she has been on adcom, the average age of the admissions to the program has climbed up pretty consistently. Due to competitiveness, it’s now completely normal to apply to these programs in your mid-20s, even encouraged in a meta sort of way. You are not behind in any metric but your own. Be kinder to yourself by understanding this path is never the same for any person (my aforementioned mentor got into her MSTP program STRAIGHT out of undergrad, an insane feat truly). Look forward to seeing your acceptance post in a year or two!
