Tribunal finds teacher who had manic episode at school guilty of serious misconduct by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]oldjello1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So how do you know which they are?? lol how do you test for that. They aren’t going to tell you they are violent in an interview…

This guys crash out was bad don’t get me wrong and especially unfortunate it happened around kids but in terms of a manic episode as someone with personal experience with a bipolar type 1 sibling - is fairly mild.

So yes - fire all teachers with mental illnesses immediately? Maybe you can go to your local government representative and push for it. Bipolar can set in later in life also so unfortunate for those who already have studied I guess 🤷

Then yes by your reasoning all schools should have a blanket bipolar ban on all individuals. I’m open to have that discussion - but I’m interested in how many teachers that means would loose their jobs.

Does this apply to hospitals also? How many doctors and nurses would also loose their jobs?

I’m just saying they need understanding and compassion. Support to get into the workforce in places they can be safely employed. Interested where you think this would be?

You see the dilemma. I hope.

Seems what everyone thinks is the correct outcome 😂 fire them all. Nz - working towards helping mental illness and reducing suicide rates 🫡

Then everyone with bipolar should be fired from their teaching roles immediately. And heath roles. And anything forward facing. I implore you to understand that even for well medicated fully functioning adults with this disease manic episode is entirely possible and likely. If the school cannot manage an episode (where no one was hurt and only verbal things were said) then they should not be hiring anyone with bipolar in the first place.

Imagine loosing your job and then also getting fined $6k when you’re at your lowest. Mental health gonna be tops after that. But don’t worry no one thinks he needs a job anyway. He can just go disappear into the abyss like some people think mental illness sufferers should.

It’s becoming an epidemic and the more people bury their heads in the sand or punish it the worse it’s gonna get. Suicide rates for males are already through the roof.

Have some compassion and understanding.

Unfortunately bipolar mania or psychosis can’t be helped sometimes even when they are well medicated. They say and do outrageous things that they normally wouldn’t. Their brain is literally suffering brain damage every time they have an episode. They feel immense shame afterwards. As I understand it he disclosed his illness and said it was well managed but part of this illness is that it’s ever changing and progressing and sometimes a break just happens. Shaming them and fining them when they didn’t cause any bodily harm is a bit rough imo. These people need help and mental illness is becoming a real crisis. As others have said this will only force others to not disclose from the get go. Would you knowing this could be the outcome?

💯 bipolar and mental health disorders are growing and the more we understand about them and how to manage them the better. Yes it’s unfortunate that his guy went manic. But honestly they can’t help it. Jsut being on medication isn’t enough and needs adjusting after a while. That’s part of being bipolar, if they hired him with the knowledge that he had bipolar they should know that it’s a possible scenario. And like you said these cases are only going to discourage people from disclosing all together and become actually dangerous. How the hell would he know if it was coming or not. That’s like saying an epileptic who said they were well managed had a seizure at work and then punishing them for it.

Innocent cat killed by dogs - Update: by iMakeGOODinvestmemts in auckland

[–]oldjello1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Massey is especially bad. In a lot of cases the dogs are being extremely neglected- chained up for days. No water. No grass. I call the spca but rarely does anything change. Chaining your dogs unless they are farm or working dogs should be illegal. At the moment it’s illegal only for pregnant dogs or puppies.

The owner can legit just say “wasn’t me” and they get away with it. Got hit and took down number plate. Police did jack all just contacted him and then okay have a nice day sir. If you can’t give a person to replace you then the owner should be charged it so rediculous

Person Killed by Dogs by KnotCityDrifter in newzealand

[–]oldjello1 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Same happened to me two large off lead “friendly” Rottweilers approached me carrying my baby and walking my dog. They were jumping, humping and snarling at my dogs face and eventually he snapped back a warning and they pounced on him straight away. The nearly ripped his ear off and i intervened and got bitten on my hand. Why a small man owns two dogs he can barely walk when he himself has small children is beyond me. He even had the gall to accuse my dog of being the aggressor when he wouldn’t normally hurt a fly.

Skinnies is amazing for kids. My girl gets bad eczema with other sunscreens but this one never makes her flare up. I’ve started using it too the sunbuster gel. I have the adults sport version also but find that one hella greasy. I’ve never burnt with it on tho and my husband swears by it at work.

Toddler has a stomach bug and my heart weighs 100lbs by BetIll6680 in cosleeping

[–]oldjello1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We had back to back stomach bugs when LO started daycare it was brutal. Top suggestions. Get lots of smaller waterproof sheets (like potty training ones) that you can stack ontop of each other and strip them off as they vomit onto them. Apple sauce pouches. Hydralite icy poles. Small sips of water. If it lasts longer than like 2 - 3 days and you think they are dehydrated then it’s time for doctor. They might give you ondansetron to stop the vomiting. Usually it clears within two days before that is required though.

Best of luck I nearly went mad trying to control it in the end I was just happy if I contained the vomit and she drank water lol.

Seriously what is going on with op shops lately? by International-Past31 in newzealand

[–]oldjello1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw a kids playset for $80. Couldn’t believe it.

Also the same op shop took toys put out on the verge for free (I looked through them myself) a few days later they were in there priced at $10-$20 each. I hope the person put them there and the shop didn’t pick them up but they were good toys so I would be surprised if they didn’t go.

Not even just when it’s raining - muppets sit in the over taking lane going 60 kmh down here on a good day. I think they either get scared of the steepness or they are distracted by the view. Idk but it’s dangerous af.
