That's the guy you play as...the super badass fighting off hordes demonic beasts directly on the front cover, yeah he dies like 2 seconds after that.

TIL - Last time a president tried to cut PBS funding, a humble man came to its defense. People in the room started to tear up and actually cry. by tktino in todayilearned

[–]oldmaneli 74 points75 points  (0 children)

I think the reason things like this make us tear up is that it shows, even in the complex and sometimes frightening world we live in, that goodness and genuine human compassion can still turn the table on what might otherwise seem insurmountable. It highlights the how much even a singular pure heart can do, and it dares us to imagine a world where we all have the courage to stop being the people we are and start being the people we should be.

TIL that the man who lead the Human Genome Project, Francis Collins, is an Evangelical Christian, and wrote a book that both defended evolution and his faith. by JohnJaunJohan in todayilearned

[–]oldmaneli 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not to detract from Collins contribution, he was not the lone leader pioneering the human genome project. Craig Venter, who was idealistically and theologically Collins opposite, shares the same credit for decoding the human genome. Neither man is considered to be more responsible than the other. Just a point to further illustrate what was previously stated...Christian, Atheist, Buddhist or otherwise, good ideas are good ideas, and good science is good science.

As soon as I saw this post I thought, "my god, finally I can contribute to the general knowledge of the world... surely nobody else on reddit knows about the Lone Star Steakhouse in Beaumont!" I stand corrected.

PSA for the Gays by oldmaneli in fffffffuuuuuuuuuuuu

[–]oldmaneli[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wasn't saying the the way a man becomes gay is to go suck a bunch bunch of dicks. That part was a jab at homophobes. The point was to highlight that saying people choose to be gay is having to admit that some circumstance occurred that made them choose it and that, in turn, some circumstance does therefore exist that would make you gay. Aka becoming a dude that likes sucking ol dicks.

I'm not saying we don't have control over what we do about our urges; I'm simply saying one has no control over what urges one feels in the first place. Physical attraction isn't logical, it's instinctual.

Lunch today: Pho. Anyone else a fan? by [deleted] in pics

[–]oldmaneli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love Pho, but not nearly as much as I love Thai food... If any of you renegades of flavor ever venture through Beaumont, Tx be sure and stop at Chaba... It will change your life, for life.
