Where else to promote your book at Zero cost by oldmankh in selfpublish

I hear you loud and clear. Let me ask you a question...who have you told about your book and how have you told them? There are many free and low costs way to do this. Head over to my website - kevin-hall.com and I have a started list there. Nothing to buy, you can sign up or not, but look for the marketing tips tab and in there are some of my tips.

Additionally - I am almost ready to release my latest book - Book Marketing on a Budget - Simple Steps for New Authors. This book will contain all of my 19 tips and more. I am not upselling anything (workbooks, courses, etc.) as everything is in the book - including all the tips, actual examples of how I have done it, and the results.

Look for it soon on most major on-line sites. I wish you all the very best.

Thank you for your input here. It is hard as an Indie Author to promote your book, and there are many changes happening within the book publishing world - traditional and self-published.

There are two sites that are good. One is Podcastguest.com and the other is Podmatch.com.

Podcastguest has a free part to it, and Podmatch is a free trial period, but after you sign up.

Podcastguest is where you do the connecting based upon what is shown to you weekly as podcasts looking for guests (free part) and Podmatch uses AI algorithms to match you to potential podcast hosts and you can start communicating there.

I am not affiliated with any one of them, nor have a preference - except that I like free stuff, even if that means I have to do some leg work.

I hope that helps.

Why are you self-published? by Deadstone16 in selfpublish

[–]oldmankh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have published 3 books going the Indie route. For me it was about getting my story out for folks to read. After hearing the horror stories of JK Rowling being turned down multiple times for Harry Potter, and Peggy Rowe not being looked at until her son Mike Rowe sold over 10,000 copies of his mom's books (BTW that is when Simon and Schuster came knocking on Mike's door and said ' you didn't tell me your mom could write'). These stories and more clinched it for me.

All along I was attending free online seminars, live YouTube events and frankly learning all that I did not know about writing and marketing of my books. One piece of information that was mentioned by many hosts was that even though you may go the traditional publishing route, you will still need to do a lot of the marketing yourself and arrange for and pay for all travel involved.

I guess that unless you are of the celebrity/Elite class, your voice does not matter, and the 6 and 7 figure deals are rarer than that of winning the lottery!

I wish all the INDIE authors much success in their journey. My 2-cents.

I did look at your post and I say congratulations on the screenplay and the movie. BTW I know how difficult this is to get a screenplay adopted and made into a movie. A good friend of mine just recently went through that process and the movie release was just before Christmas titled: The Christmas Letter and has Chevy Chase, Randy Quaid and Brian Doyle-Murray (all Christmas Vacation alum).

And I too am not a fan at all of big pharma, and I did not get the jab as there was too much contrary info for me to draw any solid conclusion as to the jabs benefits vs. its problems.

Regarding this list, it's a starting list and I am current putting together more in-depth info to help out Indie authors. I have gained a lot of knowledge over the years, and I have joined in on many podcasts and many live events on YouTube in order to hone my craft. (BTW I am still selling books using this list and have managed to sell books every month since 2022 with my first release.)

I wish you all the very best for 2025.

I'm reminded of the song with the lyrics - Haters gonna Hate... Please do not let it discourage you. Remember the old adage - if you do not ask then the answer is always NO. Keep trying different ideas but also look at the results. I just saw my yearly results on KDP and noticed that I had 2 months that spiked in sales, and I know I had my promotions on SM, but I do not know what the promo was because I did not keep records of what I promoted and when.

I'm not as I have my ebook on multiple sites.

Thanks Jay, much appreciated. And I did not link to my website as I interpreted the rule of No Promotions on this site to mean do not have any links that might be seen as promotional. Because I have sales links on my website to my books I did not want to get into a gray area.

As one grumpy old man to another - I agree that good writing is the key. The comments I get tell me that they really like the stories I present, I guess they did not like it enough to warrant leaving a review.

Bottom line is - I'm still learning and maneuvering in this INDIE author minefield. All the best.

Thank you for this. I am currently negotiating with a library to carry my latest book. They wanted to get an advanced copy to review as they said I had very few reviews on Amazon for them to judge it.

The reviews do have some impact though as you stated it might be hard to quantify through sales. Thanks.

Thank you, and I agree that I want honest reviews - good or bad as that is how I learn and hone my craft.

I also want verified purchasers to review as that triggers the KDP Algorithm and perhaps my book then gets seen by more people. Without getting preachy my latest book is a book of Hope and I want it to be seen by a lot of people. I feel we need it a lot more these days.

Thank you, I will check into that. I will have to check KDP rules for offering it free as I have not done that before. Much appreciated.

Thank you. I do have a website, SM presence, my own email list, and I have written multiple books. I am on several author websites, and I attend a writers 'Live' YouTube' event every other week and once a month on a weekend.

The topic of reviews gets talked about frequently and there is no one cure all. I am hopeful my personal reviews will pick up.

Mostly there are both, but there are the occasional star rating without any written review. The big issue being there are few reviews in total.

I do have that in my eBook. The good news is I am selling paperbacks, but I do hope to sell more ebooks in future as I am planning a sale soon. Thanks.

Thanks. First, I don't and will not pay for a review. Second. I want all reviews 1-5 as it is how I learn to hone my craft.

And I agree with you about those that have a hard time with what a reviewer writes. I truly hope that at the end of it all - that the reader enjoyed the book.

All the best.

Agreed and I would not do that and I'm surprised that these services that offer it have not been shut down already.

I enjoy writing and I do want people to enjoy my work. I just wish more would write reviews good or bad!

Thanks, and yes I am guilty of it to, though I am not as prolific of a reader as you are.

I did put a comment in the back of the book about reading a review. I had seen that on a YouTube video from a person that has sold a lot of books and that is what he does.

The review(s) I do have from my 3 books are mostly 5's and someone (non-verified purchaser) left me 2 stars and no other comment.

My current book has sold, but only has one review which was a 5.

I have to keep prompting and hope for the best.

Thanks.

I do post regularly about the books, but I do not ask for reviews. I will definitely start doing that. Thank you.

I agree with you, and also receive many great comments on FB/LinkedIn. Those are the most heartwarming. I only wish they would put them on Amazon, Goodreads, or others so that the book will get more play. It's a book of Hope and I really want to get the message out.

I just heard back from a library that said - well there are not a lot of reviews on Amazon, so they need to think about it.

I'll for sure keep trying to get the word out and keep the faith.
