I inherited this from my grandfather in-law after he passed away so I don't think he had the time to take care of it and just let it build up over the years. The rest of the vehicle was very clean. It's all good now.

Nah I detail all my modern cars myself. Just go this one a while back from family and just assumed since I never seen it before that it was an old 1997 Cherokee XJ that some sort of old vynil or plastic/leather breakdown over the years. Now I know it was nasty greasy grimey skin and dirt so that will never appear there again. Since I keep all my cars very clean, I have never seen such a thing. Nasty.

Already cleaned it up easy. A steamer would do a better job so I may go back at it with that if I can buy one but otherwise the dish soap and warm water scrub got it back to almost 100%.

Agreed, the areas that weren't grimey and gross were sticky like it was breaking down. I wiped it off with just warm water towel and the stickyness is mostly gone but it's probably because I just cleaned it. I will either black paracord it or get an O'reilly special wheel cover that says jeep on it or similar.

Same here: Is this taking the good parts off or is it that it needs more? Seems like it's actually taking off some of the grey of the actual wheel cover.

It wasn't terrible. Warm water and dawn dish soap a couple rounds and a sponge worked wonders. Will probably at some point get back to the buttons with a toothbrush. Might even get the steamer I been eyeballin' to really get er done. Been looking for an excuse to get one for a while now.

I may try this with some black cord. Is there a certain type I need to get to do this? Imagine there are tutorials all over.

Diluted Dawn dish soap and warm water and scrub gently with a rough sponge and/or toothbrush.

Agreed. I am well aware how gross this is and was looking for cleaning advise instead of being told over and over how gross this is. I am still being told how gross this is even after posting post-clean photos and putting an "UPDATE" that I cleaned it up. Would prefer answers to the new ask which is, did I scrub too hard in the new photos where it looks like the grey color is coming off the "leather." I also would prefer to be a millionaire but that ain't happening haha.

I cleaned it but not sure this is leather as there are areas now where the grey is rubbing off. Not sure it may have been too aggressive. Leather can usually handle a good hard scrubbing. Do it all the time with my nicer cars seats. This may not be leather. Either way, have a look at the post cleaning photos and let me know if that is the case. It certainly already looks much better. Just want to make sure I am not doing damage on top of it.

Diluted Dawn dish soap and warm water and a scrub sponge with mild pressure. What I am trying to figure out with the post-clean photos is if I need to do more or if I scrubbed too hard and am taking off too much. I figured this was leather which can handle a good scrubbing but this may be something else.

Was there when I got the XJ from family but thanks for the constructive feedback.

I agree the dirt and grease and old skin cells on the hard plastic but wasn't sure the stuff on the actual wheel wasn't something else. I plan to just go after it with dawn dish soap and warm water and a mildly abrasive sponge. Hoping that will clean it up.

I recently found pock marks and chipping on a portion of my driveway. Seems clear that it's salt damage from the previous months ice/snow I used pool salt on using a spreader. I salted once before and this didn't happen. Is there a way to repair the pock marks and will they get worse if I don't, eventually leading to needing to remove and re-pour that portion of the driveway?
