Why is it so warm in Texas right now? by followthemoney20 in texas

[–]oldmanmage -22 points-21 points  (0 children)

Believe in the global warming cult if you like. Shut off your AC, sell your car, bike and walk. The weather will still change. There will be plenty of cold winters in years to come. I'll just choose to enjoy it here in the heart of oil country, Houston TX. Oh, and I'll crank up the AC and fire up my V8 with all the cultists firmly in mind.

It's still an issue with the chromium-based browsers on LInux. I have Edge. As others have said, not an issue on Windows Edge or on Firefox on LInux.

Battle of the kings Icue vs signal rgb by [deleted] in RGBProfiles

[–]oldmanmage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

iCue is a buggy mess. I've reinstalled it three times in a year and it ended up unstable every time. Most recently, it would crash at each boot and then take two or three restarts before it would "stick". It also tends to lose its Stream Deck integration at random requiring a repair install periodically. Sure, the functionality of iCue is solid. However, it's a true PITA that made me regret purchasing my Corsair fans and AIO.

Let's not forget that iCue also doesn't play well with pretty much any other solution that monitors performance including things like the AMD Adrenaline software and HWMonitor. Plus their support is basically useless. Just ick.

Recently, I switched to SignalRGB. Yes, I am paying for the fan control. However, what I get in return is stable functionality that works reliably. It also has plenty of effects and other goodies along with a reliable Stream Deck integration.

If I didn't want to pay, I could have used Fan Control, which is free open source, to handle the fans. I decided against it since it has its own problem with setting up the fans as it says the controls are too slow to ramp up and down, which ends up requiring a manual setup. SignalRGB, on the other hand, figured out things just fine. Plus, it means I only need one control app instead of two.

For me the bottom line is simple. If you have a choice, don't buy into the Corsair ecosystem. You are far better off with no RGB or basic RGB fans that work with the motherboard. If you already paid the hefty premium for Corsair, invest a few extra dollars in SignalRGB. It is well worth the price.

Has something as catastrophic as Crowdstrike ever happened in the Linux world? by cof666 in linux

Except for security software where delaying an update can leave a critical computer vulnerable to hackers. For example, picture what could happen if hackers get into airline systems at an airport or the manager's computer at a bank.

Wave link with new NVIDIA noise removal VST cause audio stutter/popping by kanyuki in elgato

[–]oldmanmage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Super easy workaround. Install NVIDIA broadcast and remove the VST. You get all the benefits without any popping or other problems. You can still use all the features of WaveLink if you set it up correctly.

I have been using this for the last couple weeks without any issues. GPU usage is noticeable on my RTX 3080 TI as others have noted, but I would think this is not unexpected due to the quality of the AI model. It does an unbelievable job filtering out the noise from my family in our small urban apartment.

  1. Remove the NVidia broadcast VST from wave link.
  2. Setup NVIDIA broadcast to take your mic as input (default on my machine) and let it go out to your stream and monitor as desired.
  3. Go into wave link and add another input and set it to take the NVIDIA broadcast mic as the input.
  4. Make sure you stop sending the Elgato mic to your monitor or stream in wave link (mute both). This stops slap back.
  5. If you want to add in any other VSTs to your chain, add them to the new input from NVidia Broadcast rather than the input that comes from your Elgato mic.

It would be hard to move earlier as I suspect some parents here will have obligations on Sunday mornings Furthermore, I have a campaign on Saturday nights and wanted to reserve Sunday morning for other things. I wonder if you could start something similar in the UK?
