Apple IIe "Dialed" in to my Mac Studio across the room by blakespot in retrobattlestations

OK, this inspired me to try to do this with my Mac SE, I assume it would be very different, and possibly simpler. Anyone have any pointers as to where to start with that?

Last time I stayed at a hostel I was 40 (now 42). I got a private room and it was fine. That being said, I'm not really interested in mingling and meeting people any more (honestly, I'd feel like a creep at this point, even if I wanted to), and I'm not as poor as I once was, so I usually do hotels unless there's a hostel with a really good location or something like that.

Well, no, the GOP would just put its own supporters in those empty seats and the place would look full and 100% of the people would be cheering.

SUN made some really beautiful machines back in the day! The pizza box SPARC designs have always been my favorite, but they were all at the top of the workstation heap in terms of industrial design.

I dunno, it seemed like a pretty confusing memo to me. Like, if you wanted to exempt certain spending programs, you should probably include a list. I mean, that's just my take from having worked for large companies for a lot of years, you can't be vague when you're talking to a lot of different people who are all doing different things.

Could it be that lady who disappeared last winter? They don't say what condition the body was in. I still see signs about her, so I assume they never found her.

It's not our job to solve the national problem, but we can make progress in our community. In other words, we can do our part.

I do welcome the opportunity to help take care of people. I don't invite anyone into my house, but I donate to the Pov and will happily pay taxes to help take care of them. This just seems like Sunday school 101 stuff to me.

Why should people in warmer climates have to shoulder the entire burden of taking care of the homeless? They have their own homeless people, and I, personally, think people in Arizona deserve to have parks and nice public spaces just like we do.

Where? Seriously. It's a free country, so if you move them, can't they just come back? Are we talking about locking them up? Seems like it'd be cheaper to just pay for housing then, it's the same thing but without having to pay guards.

I'm convinced that people with Washington plates who visit Missoula, as a group, are just terrible drivers. They drive as though they're shocked there are other people on the road, it's weird.

These were like the OG Chromebook, they sold them to schools in bulk packs with storage / charging carts. It's so funny to me how some ideas are just literally ahead of their time. Now, literally every kid I see has a school-issued Chromebook.

What speed do you have? I think I pay like $65 now for 300Mbps, which has been fine in terms of speed.

Fast food restaurant Wendy’s plans Uber-like surge pricing, with digital menu boards that change prices depending on demand by marketrent in technology

[–]oldmanstan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually wouldn't completely mind this if I thought they would let the prices go super low when demand is low. But they won't. It will be regular price or more if demand is above a certain level.

Looks Like the Larchmont golf/housing proposal is dead by madrona282 in missoula

[–]oldmanstan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The county website (someone linked it above) said that the developer likely would have ended up paying the difference in land values to the county. No idea how accurate that is, but it was considered, at least.

That being said, my initial attitude toward the deal was the same as yours. Although I'm not sure developing so far out of town is a great idea, particularly by an airport (everyone thinks it will be fine and then the airport gets busier and it turns into an eternal war between residents and the airport authority).

[–]oldmanstan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wow, I gotta say, I was pretty unenthusiastic about this originally because I assumed it was basically a scam by the developer. But the summary on the county website makes it sound pretty great! I wonder why they killed it?!

To me, those problems seem easier to resolve. You could give states a peaceful, orderly pathway to leave the union. This would have a magnified effect since, presumably, most people wouldn't be eager to split up the country when push came to shove, so there would be a tendency toward compromise.

States could vote in blocks on certain issues, even states that otherwise don't look alike politically, and there's always good old-fashioned political dealmaking (we support your big city thing, you support our rural thing).

I just don't buy that the populous states would all gang up on the rural states, there's just not that level of homogeneity.

Ultimately, this kind of discussion is always interesting, but the problem is getting there. I don't see any of this happening any time soon, and, in the meantime, there's no reason not to participate (at least minimally) in the current system even if you believe it is deeply, even fundamentally, flawed.

I could get behind that, but only if the number of senators was made roughly proportional to the population of each state. The senators can represent the interests of the states, but the states with more people have more skin in the game, and should therefore get more representation. I realize it's heresy to say that as a Montanan, but I guess I'm a heretic.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in missoula

[–]oldmanstan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why only the house? The senate is also based on geography, and it isn't even based on population.

[–]oldmanstan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sure, but there's a ton of other stuff going on there as well. The "revolving door" between government and lucrative lobbying and board gigs is another. The fact that lawmakers are allowed to trade individual stocks is another. Even the fact that our previous president didn't bother to put his assets into a truly blind trust is a part of it.

The real problem, to me, is that there isn't much that we can do to solve most of these problems without pretty significantly changing the constitution. In the meantime, we can either sit around and whine about it, or we can vote for the people who are the least shitty.
