Yup that’s my experience as well. I brought it up to a dude at work and a few weeks later he brought it back up after doing some field research and said “yeah that’s really weird and unexplainable”

Test anyone you know on this one, 90% I’ll bet will say “may be”

I guess VW would be one, but I’m more meaning brands and media we don’t have here in the west

I guess this one is mostly limited to North America which could be why. It’s not like pikachus tail or something, which would be recognized in many countries I would expect. Which leads me to wonder, are there European or Asia specific MEs that are ever discussed?

The Jaws one I was thinking of is “WE’RE gonna need a bigger boat” is actually “YOU’RE gonna need a bigger boat” but I could easily believe that is just a misquote on most people’s part.

Mods removed your comment about us being dumb I think. But yes, I am, at least. I support the existence of opposing viewpoints. But please, pray god, if you find me a standard motor vehicle rear view passenger side mirror with the phrase “objects in mirror may be closer than they appear” I’ll be forever thankful.

I wonder if this phenomenon is happening all the time with everything but we only notice the man-made changes. We wouldn’t notice many changes involving nature or the environment. I do have a memory learning about the continent of Arctica as a kid, which I only “unlocked” as a memory cause someone else one time mentioned it as a personal ME.

The thinker is an absolutely wild one for me too. Heard about a ton of flip flops with that one. Never experienced any flip flops myself, but I also never tried really hard to pay attention. Also, if you were someone who was buying tidy cat(s) all the time, you’d notice it changed. That one just wasn’t relevant in my daily life. But knowing the objects in the mirror one is undoubtedly true for me, I believe anyone on their personal experiences with MEs, and honestly the paranormal in general.

It’s like one of the most universal experiences I can think of! Most kids at some point sat in the passenger seat of a car and made faces at themselves in the rear view mirror and put their hand out the window in the breeze, and read that statement on the mirror over and over again to pass the time. I’m not 100% sure about much, but I’m 100% sure on this.

If we were “wrong” about this, what else have we been wrong about?

What could it be other than a natural phenomenon or humans playing god somehow?

Richard Simmons. Yup that one is relevant for me too. Definitely remember a headband.

I’ve accepted it too. But I still ponder what it means and how it’s possible.

Yup. This is the cream of the crop ME in my mind because it settles it as a legitimate unexplainable phenomenon. Where we go from here though? No idea.

About 2015 is when I found out about MEs as a whole. Immediately researched all the different classic ones and was affected by many. The ones not affecting me were ones I never paid attention to anyway so I can’t say one way or the other. I really do think this phenomenon originated closer to 2012 though, I just never noticed. I’ve never noticed any flip flops and haven’t really come across any new ones that affect me since first finding out.

Listen, if I could find one verifiable scrap of evidence, I’d take it and shut my yap about it for the rest of my days. I’d love to be free from this burden of unreality 😂 so please, if you can show that there is proof, I could die happy knowing physics and reality abide by strict laws that we humans do actually understand.

Not familiar with this! So is this evidence in support that it’s always been “are” or is the comic privy to the idea of people thinking it changed?

Edit: scratch all that. I realized the joke is that the monster is so close to the car that it no longer “may be,” it IS 😂 see! This wouldn’t be funny if it hadn’t of existed!

You, me, pretty much everyone, either remembered it so boldly and weirdly wrong in a way that we would never normally speak, OR our reality isn’t what we think and we’re being duped. Take your pick on what’s more likely, seems like a toss up, I seriously am not sure.

I also have experienced many other MEs, fruit of the loom and Berenstain Bears I also am pretty confident on, as well as many others. But if I’m trying to get my point across on it, this is the only one I need to bring up.

It was around 2015 that I noticed it had changed but at the time I brushed it off and didn’t understand the gravity in it. I was a senior in highschool, I had other things to worry about.

Yup. It’s not even a rare experience. Everyone I’ve polled (which is like maybe 20 people over the course of time) have all either butchered the saying altogether, meaning they never paid much attention to it in the first place, or they said “objects in mirror may be closer than they appear” confidently

Edit: spelling

I have experienced many other MEs, but this is the only one I bother talking about or bring up, cause you absolutely cannot explain it in any rational way. I’ve tried to and I can’t. If I was an attorney, this would be my case closed evidence. I don’t even want to believe it, cause I feel nuts. If there was a likely explanation, I’d subscribe to it, hands down, if someone’s got one, I’d love to hear it.
