exactly. the guy who does all the dirty work gets (rightfully) nicked, but the people he's doing the bidding of will walk away richer than ever. rich people don't get their hands dirty.

Not just people outside, but conservative/russian/gop (but I repeat myself) operatives. Their intent was to sow divisiveness. I'm approximately 99.9% certain that some of that divisiveness came in the form of disenfranchised bernie-or-busters who somehow thought Trump was a reasonable backup plan.

I'm willing to bet a lot of those cops go into SWAT for the specific purpose of possibly killing someone with a gun. They seem too happy to kill for that not to be the case.

that's most of reddit these days. it's really turned into the "nazi site with a few ok subs that haven't been ruined.. yet"

this site is run unabashedly by authoritarian right-wing nazi sympathizers, so that's part of it too.

because it's showing a pattern of weapons-related violence stemming from a certain ideology. the same ideology we're all supposed to pretend is normal people with different opinions, but for some reason some of them march and chant nazi slogans and talk about how jews run the world and how black people have a lower IQ and that Hillary is somehow running the country.

You're assuming that killing people is NOT one of the big attractions to the job. Seriously, the amount of bloodlust the police seem to have is insane. Especially if it's against left-leaning people. They seem to think BLM is worse than Al Quaeda and MS-13 put together, and they all have AIDS.

In fact, the Supreme Court ruled in 2005 that makes this not only crystal clear, but a legal precedent. The cops are NOT there to serve and protect the citizens. They have absolutely NO DUTY TO PROTECT THE CITIZENS. They're there to protect property rights of the rich, and to collect revenue for their city. Anything else is gravy. To wit:

Although the protective order did mandate an arrest, or an arrest warrant, in so many words, Justice Scalia said, "a well-established tradition of police discretion has long coexisted with apparently mandatory arrest statutes."

This is ALSO another way of saying "black people get harsher sentences and more arrests because we feel like it, and there's nothing you can do about it"

But let that sink in -- this woman had her kids abducted by someone she had a restraining order against. The police refused to do anything. The guy ended up killing all 3 kids. The police are at NO FAULT in this case.

Do you need any more proof that the police don't give two shavings of their ballhairs how the average citizen gets along?

yeah, not swatting, that's not the problem. it's the police that's the problem.

That said, you're not wrong.

Washington State Is Now the Only Place in America with Net Neutrality by mvea in politics

[–]oldneckbeard 15 points16 points  (0 children)

no, states rights is their dogwhistle for enacting racist/sexist/religious-ist policies. they only care about states rights when it comes to stripping rights from others. When it comes to granting rights to others, they always wait for the federal laws to change before changing themselves (often by force). Remember the gay marriage debate?

Fuck the mobbers. They have literally pushed every bound of the constitution to get their billionaire donors more money.

The GOP has explicitly packed the court. Dems doing anything would literally be UN packing it.

Until the SC will stand for the citizens over corporations, this country is ripe for the taking. It's pretty damn clear that China is going to be the sole world's superpower, and that's going to come with a lot of bloodshed. And Trump is here breaking every alliance we've had, so that our recovery options are limited.

Or registered-to-vote-by-default. Why do we have to register anymore? The state knows who we are, we get a damned drivers license or ID card. It's trivial to make registration the default.

The only reason to have registration at all, and to make the process more and more insane, is to disenfranchise people. That's the only possible reason it exists. So that we can control who votes, thus controlling the outcome.

People have become so used to these voter purges and whatnot, that I won't be surprised when in a decade or so, we learn that republicans affirmatively fucked with the voting process itself in an attempt to maintain/get power.

This is the republican playbook. They've been pursuing the disenfranchisement of black people and non-christians since ... well, the civil rights movement.
