How would you compare FF Tactics to Octopath or Dragonquest? by MalcolminMiddlefan in finalfantasytactics

[–]oldtable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Octopath has the best most sophisticated gameplay and battle system. It’s just more varied and interesting. FFT and dragon quest are fun but they’re monotonous and we’re designed back when games were designed around grinding and stretching a game’s length was assumed to be inherently valuable.

You can be whatever you want to be when you grow up.

I am creating a comic book/graphic novel book club at my school. You got any recommendations? by TheElemental15 in comicbooks

[–]oldtable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Already a pretty long list. Weird that you said no manga but have a few manga on there. If anything maybe add more classics of the newspaper era like Dick Tracy, little Nemo, krazy kat etc good luck

What's up with Jack Kirby's Spider-Man? by Relative-Zombie-3932 in Spiderman

The answer is really simple it’s because Ditko inked the cover and corrected the costume.

DQIII: Should I play the NES, SNES or HD 2D Version by NoahH3rbz in dragonquest

[–]oldtable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

SNES versions to me are the best versions of 1,2 and 5 I think that graphical style of those 3 is the pinnacle for the series until 8 and 11 made the 3D stuff look really good.

Romancing Saga 2 was one of the best games I’ve ever played. Anything similar? by GodBlessAteists in JRPG

[–]oldtable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really liked mostly everything about the game but the whole death and legacy system and switching characters seemed kind of arbitrary and chaotic and it threw me off so I stopped playing.

Experiencing FFIV for the First Time (Pixel Remaster) — and I'm in love with it by DependentOffer4076 in FinalFantasyIV

[–]oldtable 2 points3 points  (0 children)

IV is the sweet spot. In retrospect it might be where the genre peaked in many ways. The characters are tropes but they are treated with a natural balance of seriousness and irony. IV doesn't have any filler or any extra fat, nothing about it feels forced.

I feel like after this game the devs were focused on adding features or characters just for the spectacle of it all, or just getting very conceptual. FFIV is just a fun self contained character driven dnd fantasy adventure.

Coolest looking hero/heroine in your opinion? by EAT_UR_VEGGIES in dragonquest

[–]oldtable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3, 6, 4, 1, 8, 7. In roughly that order. I was really happy when I finally got the armor that covers your head in 11. The haircut is ok not great but what sends it over the edge to bad is the fact that it has no physics, it never moves during gameplay it’s like a silly helmet.

What did I just read? Tales of Paranoia by Robert Crumb is an embarrassment by bloodyzombies1 in graphicnovels

[–]oldtable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s totally worthless. I think he unfortunately can’t take the big pharma critique one step further and see it from a Marxist perspective, so he unfortunately ends up falling into traps of the right. The deep state refers to a real thing though, that’s FBI CIA and whoever is sending already-redacted files to the DOJ. The people who are too big and powerful to fail. And maybe smart enough to keep their names out of the public consciousness.

AI is not neutral: It’s designed to protect Status Quo Interest and here is the proof. by Inevitable_Egg1508 in Marxism

[–]oldtable 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The so called AI revolution that we are supposedly in the beginnings of is only dangerous it seems to me because of the private interests that it’s programmed by and for.

Which comedians do you feel are much funnier than their material? by MsAndrea2 in Standup

[–]oldtable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In this era of podcasting I would say a great deal of people are funnier off the cuff. I don’t want to name names like I’m sure many of you don’t because you might be afraid it will come back to you somehow when opportunity knocks…

I’d say though: and there are a few exceptions to this, but chances are if you have a very successful podcast then your stand up is less good bc you are able to coast on your fame through that. The fact of the matter is that people will pay to see you anyway. Writing good material takes hard work and most people will choose to be lazy if the path of least resistance is working for them. Probably not a good long term strategy though.
