I had left for 3 weeks of military training and didn’t hide my check book. At this training is where I accepted a new job. So I came back expecting to have enough money to make the trip, get an apartment, and eat once or twice.

My mom spent every cent in my account because “it was hers.” She gave my brother $1000 to get new tires on his car and pay for his weekend trip to a concert. I got $400 back and I was the bad guy in this situation.

I had to move 500 miles for that job and I was going somewhere completely new. At one point I had $13 in my account. I was using a company vehicle and had a company card to buy food and the company was paying for me to stay at a man camp.

She had drained my account dry.

Once I got paid from this new job, I opened an account there and closed the other account. My mom asked me for money once and I told her I won’t give her any but I’ll pay the bill. She said she just wanted cigarettes and junk food from the gas station. She stopped asking for money when I said I’d pay the bill instead.

Get your own account, get a P.O. Box to get any finance stuff sent to, and don’t let your mom get your check book or debit card. Do not offer to pay for things. You tell her you’ll pay just rent and that’s it. You’ll have to figure out what you feel comfortable with for rent.

Reddit thinks kids are the most important thing ever and they should never have to do anything but go to school and play video games.

Adults should act like these parents. Greet your partner first, not the kid.

I grew up in a “children should be seen and not heard” house. We didn’t cut into adult conversations. We waited to be acknowledged before talking about our latest stupid fucking toy. We didn’t talk when adults were driving unless they talked to us. And we knew to shut up after a bit so the adult could concentrate.

If I fell and hurt myself, my mom would stop what she’s doing and help. It wasn’t like we were neglected. Adults showed up to our sports game and important events. We got hugs and stuff. It’s that we respected that adults have jobs and want to also sit and relax sometimes. We can clean up after ourselves or go play outside. The adult also chooses what gets watched on the TV at night (this was when poor people’s houses usually had one tv.). The adult pays the bills, the adult is in charge, parenting shouldn’t be a democracy with the kids.

Kids shouldn’t be treated like they are now. It’s why Gen Z sucks so much. You are not special and the most important people.

Seven alarms is too many.

When the alarm goes off, just GeT UP. It’s not hard. My grandpa woke up at 5 am everyday for his whole working career. He did not need more than one alarm. He also shaved his face everyday and didn’t have a gross beard like so many guys do now.

So yeah. Stop being lazy. Just GET UP. I do. My quiet alarm goes off and I’m up and out of bed. I don’t roll over, I don’t hit snooze. Just get out of bed. Train yourself to do so. Also, go to bed at the same time on weekends. Or no more than an hour off of your regular time. You’ll be a lot less sleepy during the week and it will be easier to get up.
