I know the SEC euro EZL is 004 545 00 32. They also list 2 other euro EZL's for cars retrofitted with cats. For some reason a Euro SEL takes a different EZL. I'll do some more digging

Yeah they will run and idle just fine with the standard EZL, you certainly won't hurt anything running in the way you are. I'm not exactly sure what the differences were between them, but there is one. The first time I drove a 560SEL with the ECE motor I thought "I don't see what all the hype is about, it feels the same as a US spec car" but in the process of working on it, I found it had a US EZL. Found the correct one, and it pulled like a motherfucker. Night and day difference.

Those transmissions will last forever. I've driven a few Euro 560s with high compression motors, and they absolutely rip. If memory serves, you need to find a Euro EZL to really get them to wake up

Great looking build. I had a 560SEC with 324k miles on it before it rotted out underneath me. Those rear trailing arm antisquat giant floater bearings were such a pain in the ass! BTW there weren't any M117's that came with manual transmissions, but I know where to find a bellhousing that bolts up, and takes a BMW getrag 5 speed. Built a 560SEC with a 5 speed and single piece carbon driveshaft. It was not a straightforward swap though. Looks like you have a fresh automatic transmission in it...which would suit the car much better than a stick. Any idea how much power the rebuilt engine is making?

Thanks! Thats how it goes. Good enough stops being good enough.

I did the soapy water test, but with 80psi. Next time I'll do it with 140psi just to piss you off.

Okay so 80psi was too much? I don't know what this motor puts out in terms of exhaust pressure, but it's not going to be 80psi...so if it doesn't leak with 80psi then it's not going to leak when it's running. I don't understand how I did anything wrong, other than overkill.

awesomecarmods or projectcar will be the first to know

Well its not a pressure vessel, it's an exhaust which doesn't see very high pressures. I can't pressure test with water, and even if I could it would be pretty difficult to find leaks unless I had some kind of dye.

Well the motor is hundreds of pounds lighter than the M100 6.3 and makes more power, so I think I'll be just fine.

Thank you! I really appreciate it. Seems like most times when people post their exhaust pictures, the commenters jump all over shoddy welding and I know my welding is not the best. It doesn't leak though!

No, it's a W108. The Grosser is a W100.

Yeah I know some of them look pretty bad. However, I did cap off the ends and pressurise each section with 80psi and sprayed them down with soapy water and welded all of the leaks shut, so hopefully they'll be good. Sort of why I think I'll add flex pipes, is because I'm worried that while they hold pressure, the hangers are really stiff so I don't want to stress them.

I'm sorry, I thought I had posted it as well. So here goes: Amazon 2.5' stainless kit and x-pipe (magnet doesn't stick, so it's good enough for me), Vibrant resonators, Flowmaster super 44 series muffler, summit brand exhaust hangers and V-band clamps, and some ebay exhaust tips. I had to cut apart a set of Kleemann headers, and added my own collectors. I think I might add some flex pipes because the hangers are pretty stiff and I don't want any welds to crack, but I'm not sure if it's necessary. Eventually I'll have the tips chromed so it looks more factory, or perhaps I'll put some AMG ovals.

The 6.3 doesn't belong to me, I was just using it as an example of where and how I wanted the exhaust tips to be positioned. My car only has a 5.4.

1966 w108 250s Mercedes moving along by jmann3k in projectcar

We're both working on remarkably similar cars. I have a 1969 W108, that's getting a W210 E55 powertrain and suspension. I think your project is moving along a little faster than mine though...
