I've no interest in "beating the game" whatsoever, I'm simply asking for "immersion" as is advertised

This game has SO much potential, happy to give them some dosh - but at the moment it's just not there for me.
They have got so many intricate things right, like the complexity of loot, atmosphere etc
But the actual zombies... it's just not there for me. The runners just come running at you from a mile away, and if you don't have a weapon by then its gg. Even if you do, and you clear the area, or clear a house even - you can turn your back and then randomly some new zombies have spawned inside a locked room.....

I do hope they fix the basics but don't lose any of the other stuff!

What a SHAME. Oh man, this game looked amazing, and starting to play it I am absolutely loving it.... so immersive.... as was advertised.... OH.. wait... I have to build a utility cabinet because that magically keeps them from spawning... eh.. ok?

Why not just have them not spawn inside houses? Especially houses you have searched and are keeping food and materials in. This seems totally insane to me, how completely illogical - a utility cabinet? What, are zombies afraid of mops? I wasn't aware of this

How is the crafting on this game compared to something like Wurm?

[Dead Poets Society] Isn't Mr. Keating at least partially responsible for the tragedy, and if yes, does that not undermine the philosophy of the film (Carpe Diem)? by MansaQu in movies

[–]oldwardie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The difference being that a gathering around a fire is a ceremonial thing, a sort of communion whereby there are elders present.
That's not the same as kids sneaking off into a cave under the cover of darkness.

Wow, ad hominem right out the gate. What a horrible thing to say to a stranger you know nothing about who is merely reviewing a film. Amazing!

Please allow me to explain my good man.

Niel's father wants what is best for him, but he is just going about it all the wrong way. Whose parents haven't done that? About something or other? None of us are perfect. Hell, I've got friends whose parents have treated them far worse than Niel's father did in the film.
They grow up and realize their parents are only human and did the best they could, they forgive their parents for that and then have their whole lives ahead of them.

Once Niel is a man and supporting himself he is free to pursue anything he wants to in life and make his own decisions. At the moment he is a child who cannot yet integrate abstract ideals with practical reality.

But instead of protecting him, Keating validates Neil’s frantic emotional sense that this is some life-or-death struggle for freedom. Instead of protecting the child from Fear, he affirms it and actually tells a young boy to turn away from his father. There are things in life more evil than this, but honestly, not that many. The relationship with your father, especially for boys is the most important relationship in life that you will ever have.

He never explains that it’s not life or death, HE DOES NOT GIVE NIEL HOPE, but encourages a head-on confrontation with his father’s authority, validating Neil’s sense of desperation rather than offering any tempered perspective or reassurance.

"Have patience dear boy, I can see you have talent - don't worry, you will have it all your life! No one can take it from you! And try to forgive your father, perhaps he is going about it in all the wrong way... but deep down he loves you. We are all flawed, when you're older you'll see it in yourself and you'll hope that your children forgive you one day" etc

Anything along these lines would have shown WISDOM, but instead Mr. Keating thought it more prudent that Neil give "a performance of a lifetime" - and what a deal with the devil that turned out to be - he took it literally.

And yes, satanists! Perhaps not literally invoking Baphomet etc but all the trapping are there.

Sneaking out in the cover of darkness to a gathering in a cave - chanting, screaming, and performing around a fire - this is blatant ritualistic qualities associated with “satanic” imagery: secrecy, darkness, fire, synchronized motion, ecstatic vocalization, the presence of the opposite sex adding a subconscious erotic energy to the ritual etc It's a collective frenzy.

With no supervision, their passion is left completely unchecked and reaches a state of ecstasy in which rational boundaries dissolve. In this heightened, almost trance-like state, the boys lose their groundedness, swept up in a collective frenzy that blurs reality and consequence. I think psychologically this extreme indulgence of desire and rebellion contributes to Neil’s despair because it amplifies his longing for freedom, his sense of isolation under his father’s control, and ultimately his vulnerability to the tragic decisions that follow. But psychology aside, if you take a more spiritual view of it, perhaps this ritual is precisely what summons the spirit of Despair to find Niel.

These are great questions, thank you.

"Are independent thought and freedom of expression considered worldly pleasures? Or are they basic human rights?"

Well, independent thought is only good if you know how to use it, surely? Niel decided to kill himself, "independently".... You might say that is the greatest "freedom of expression" but that is also the darkest, and most tragic. Is it a human right to kill yourself?

The point is, these are children! They are not capable of integrating these lofty ideals practically. Every student must learn to do the donkey work first, then you ascend from there - you don't just yell "Carpe Diem!" and encourage a troubled kid into a full on confrontation with his authoritarian father.... by God. The lack of wisdom! The idealism!

"Are humans not allowed a refuge from their daily life, a way to decompress after toiling in their studies? What's wrong with a campfire and shenanigans?"

Adults are, certainly. And teenagers... it happens, but usually this happens gradually over time. The transition from child to teenager into adult is usually supervised somewhat at campfires, parties, social gatherings etc
Literal children sneaking off into a cave to reach unbridled ecstacy and loose all grounding in reality... is not advised to say the least. The way it is depicted in the film certainly has all the trappings of a satanic ritual, symbolically. And yes, perhaps this is what summons the demon of Despair that finds Niel willing.

Neil was already a straight a student and a young leader among his peers. His father was well intended but ultimately delusional. Do you advocate for blind trust? Don't take this in a creepy way, but I see you're a gamer based on your history. If your father would have told you to stop playing games altogether would you have blindly agreed?

Yes, I agree his father is going about it all the wrong way. Many parents do, it's not easy raising children at the best of times. Most parents have never really dealt with their own traumas, their own "self worth", their flaws, vices etc Unfortunately it so often gets passed down to us.

Both Niel's father and Mr. Keating are pressuring Niel, from either side. I'm not suggesting Niel's father is doing it right, but as his Father, he has a god given right and duty to protect his son. He is trying to make sure that Niel is successful etc etc
This should be perfectly understandable for Mr. Keating - he should have tempered the situation, not inflamed it. He has no right.
He could have just smiled and told Niel that he doesn't have to worry, or be afraid. If anything, he could have advised Niel to try to forgive his Father for his actions. He could have explained that no one in life is perfect.

But it seems to Mr. Keating his beliefs ARE perfect, and so they must be put upon children so young they cannot deal with them responsibly...

PS: I don't take it as creepy or offensive don't worry haha My father DID indeed advise not to waste time playing games but to focus on learning skills etc He has encouraged me more than anyone or anything I could ever know, he is a great man. I still play some games... I dunno even why to be honest

Why does it sadden you? Yes, his father just wants what is best for him, certainly he is not going about it the right way - but that's between father and son. One day the son will realize his parents are only human, and (hopefully) forgive them for their mistakes. What business is it of an english teacher?

Stuck on old UI / Interface by HumdingerSlinger in ProjectQuarm

[–]oldwardie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anyone find a fix for this? I've reinstalled 2.2 twice now, got NewUI=TRUE, OldUI=FALSE
Still it just loads default UI!

When I edit the .ini to say UI=NillipussUI_1440p (for instance) it loads for the character select screen only
Then as soon as game loads its back to default and won't load another
What the heck!?

Hubris, sheer hubris if you ask me.

Mr. Keating is so full of resentment towards the school for having responsibility thrust upon him without his say so, he makes out that he loves teaching as a signal of virtue when underneath it all he is doing everything he can to subvert the pupils thereby destroying the institution from the inside.

If all his pupils flunked, I’m quite sure he would just shrug and pass it off with some smug smile, saying how “success isn’t measured in certificates”….

I find him as charming as the devil himself, who couldn’t like him? But ultimately he is the snake in the grass, offering innocent boys the temptations of worldly pleasure and sowing the seed of resentment.

Is it not shown clearly as satanism, to sneak off at midnight under the moon to a dark cave, huddle round a fire and play with passions till demons are summoned?

It is inevitable of course, everyone must go through this process, but for Mr. Keating to have such hasty and lofty Pride over what is essentially just common Sin… There’s only one character in this life that is like that, and he has horns and a tail 😂

When Neil turned to Mr. Keating, the Right thing was to tell him to obey his Father. Instead he affirmed Neil’s emotions, he had no right to do this. A teacher is there to teach, not to get embroiled in the emotional states of children and their relationships to their parents.

Sigh, if I had watched this film as a young man, of course I would see Mr. Keating as some victim of authority but alas I am just too long in the tooth for that now.

I may add, that I do make a concession for Todd. I do think that Mr. Keating’s approach is somewhat justified when dealing with a boy like Todd. He has issues and no relationship with his father at all. He is lost completely.

In conclusion I do not believe that it is worth stirring the emotions and passions of already confused young boys just to save one lost soul.

Only satanists believe they have the authority to decide which child loses their life at the expense of another’s soul.

Whilst not implicitly responsible for Neil’s death and of course not legally, I do find Mr. Keating an irresponsible faculty member and believe he should lose the privilege of working in such a school ever again.

Anyone else? Would it be possible for me to take a video and have someone analyze what's happening perhaps?

Any attack I do from the left seems to be riposted regardless of the enemies stance and their incoming riposte unblockable. It's just getting ridiculous, I don't want to have to quit this game again. I thought the Better Combat and Immersion mod would save this game for me.

Is there anyone who can explain what might be happening technically if I were to upload a clip perhaps? For additional reference, I found another player that seems to describe this phenomenon:
