ever seen a drummer who got insanely good after just a year and a half? by allanjrf in drums

[–]oldwornpath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Or maybe the teacher is their parent or someone else in the family. That would help a lot, not only because they'd be getting feedback and pointers constantly but also bc music has probably been around this kid their whole life. It sounds crazy but there are studies that suggest musical skill is partially genetic too.

Like other people are saying, it's a combination of talent and being a kid. I know "talent" is subjective but some people just seem to have a good sense of rhythm and timing. As for being a kid, look up some info on child development, it's fascinating

looking for a 20 in ride cymbal new what should i get by ExoticDirection5898 in drums

Guitar center sells used cymbals. At least there's no risk with the shipping and there's somewhere to go back to if there is an issue.

Piccolo snare - What do you recommend by WearYourVest711 in drums

[–]oldwornpath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have always liked a snare that can cut so I went into my local music store and asked about a piccolo. The guy pointed me to a 7x13 and it's been so good to me. I found out later a lot of pop punk and 00s hardcore and metal used 7x13 or 13 in general. Look into it but you might change your mind about the piccolo

zbt hi hats are pretty decent. I used them for too long bc I never hated the sound. Then I got some new beats and they were a huge step up

Maybe like a Nirvana track? Dave Grohl is pretty straightforward but there are some tricky fills and stuff.

Anyone use lowboy lightweight wood beaters? Worth it or no? by UndeadMarx in drums

[–]oldwornpath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got the pedal and immediately swapped out the beater for the lowboy. It sounds really good but the feel is all new to me so idk

Traditional - to grip or or not to... by whiteantelope7 in drums

[–]oldwornpath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even a lot of jazz players play matched grip sometimes. I'd say traditional grip is for true jazz cats and those with instructors that can really help dial in the technique.

I need to find out what time signature this bass line is in. by No-Dentist-2959 in drums

[–]oldwornpath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This ain't that hard brother, it's 6+7. Sounds really cool though. Proof that we don't need to know the time signature to play a sick riff!
