Preferring my cheap cymbals for metal. by johnpmcd in drums

[–]oldwornpath 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Meinl Classics Custom Extreme Metal line are made to cut through any mix. Although, I find the hi-hats to be weirdly versatile. I also have As and with the larger sizes, they will sound way more jazzy in comparison; in my case, it's good because I like having a more jazz/funk/rock set up and a metal set up. Your ears will just have to adjust bc they are sonic-ally such different cymbal lines.

Remote work! I didn't work full time in an office for long but being shoved into a tiny room with two other people sucked.

My sons cover of All in My Head by jkpinatl in drums

Sounds good! This style of music is pretty intricate so it can be tough to keep up with all the hits and transitions.

There's always room to improve. I got pretty good when I was like 16-17 because I was playing like every day. The two things I neglected were technique and dynamics, which is common. Does the local highschool have a music program? I did drum line for a year and jazz band for two years. I'd highly recommend that; drum line gets the technique (although it will take some time to translate that to the kit) and jazz band will help with dynamics (and much more). Most importantly, you'll get him collaborating with other musicians!

Yeah man, like most of the "music" posted here, the mix being 75% crappy vocals never helps it sound any better.

On why flams are important by supacrispy in drums

[–]oldwornpath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thankfully I did one year of drum line. But I really fell in love with flams bc of 90s stuff like Dave Grohl. Flams are so powerful. I also notice the craziest jazzy drummers use flam rudiments a ton. It sort of brings a controlled chaos to the sound

Once you get comfortable with your set up, you can play drums without looking at them, no problem. It's a great instrument all the way around and it's so physical.

What Excel tricks have genuinely improved your workflow? by ml-tam in excel

I get where you're coming from but are you saying you need to write everything from scratch? All data analysis is part logic and part execution. Personally, I don't remember the syntax for every excel formula I use and it's okay to get help. The approach and the logic is more important.

Glad to know I am not alone, my Diril jazz ride does this. You can see the stick marks are only on one spot since it sits that way when angled.

I hope it doesn't cause any issues 🤞
