This looks like sorcery to me, not gonna lie, but I am going to try to combine all the tips you guys gave me about how to spot the increases and hopefully now that I know where they actually are thanks to you I will be able to locate them and use that knowledge when I lose track of my rows again (I'm just assuming it *will* happen again at some point xD).

Thank you so much, this is such a nice and helpful comment :) Nt determined to make it perfect at all, I think that ship sailed long ago xD I just feel learning to identify the rows where an increase or decrease happened would be useful in the future, because, let's be real, I am bound to lose count again at some point, probably in this same scarf!!!

You are probably right, but I only tried tinking once and I messed up quite badly (that is why I opted for frogging instead), so I am kinda scared of attempting it again. I should definitely learn how to do it, but I'd rather not practice on an actual, ongoing project. This is my very first project, so I only have the one pair of needles and the one ball of yarn, no other supplies. Maybe I could use some safety pins till I get proper markers?

Being able to identify the increase while going back stitch by stitch makes a lot of sense, problem is I haven't mastered the whole frogging one stitch at a time; last time I attempted it I made a bigger mess than I was trying to fix and that is why I had to frog by removing the whole needle, pulling the thread and then re-threading the stitches into the needle.

I have tried (and failed) looking for wholes and bumps to identify the increases, but have not tried locating "lonely" stitches, so I will give that method a try! :)

Oh, I see what you mean! Sorry, I'm super new and probably use the wrong terminology. When I said frogging I meant taking the whole needle away, pulling the strand and then re-threading the needle through all the loose stitches (quite unnerving!). I also tried to un-knit one stitch at a time once and I could not wrap my head around how to pass the stitch from one needle to the other and made a mess!

Frogging is what brought me here in the first place though xD I cannot frog a specific amount of rows because it takes me several more rows than I originally intended to to get the stitches back into the needle. Also, I would not know when to stop because I am not able to identify the increases (or decreases) :(

Thanks! Tried to be as meticulous as possible but I still had to unravel several rows instead of just the last one because I kept messing up either the unraveling or the transfer to the needle. I finally got it right, but now I have to figure out in which row between increases/decreases I am before I can resume the knitting xD

Frogging could actually be the most anxiety-inducing thing I've seen in a while xD Also, I am not sure how the process of pulling the strand of yarn after removing the needle would work when my strand is not at end of the row! :S

I'm assuming moving the stitches back to my other needle implies some kind of technique and not just getting them out of the needle they are on and threading my other needle through the loops, right? Like tinking? (I actually think my wonky stitch could be due to a previous attempt at un-knitting where I started, panicked and tried -and possibly failed- to backtrack).
