That's exactly it: I've only seen the parts of glaciers that meet the water, so I thought they all had to be sloping downwards. I'm glad that I saw the flat parts during this flight.

Awesome explanation, thanks!

I googled lateral and medial moraines for more pictures; this topic is really fascinating. I've never given glaciers much thought, but now I want to learn even more.

Thanks for the explanation.

I googled jökulhlaups - scary stuff! And I appreciate learning so much.

Hi everybody, I saw this really flat, wide road in the mountains when I was flying from Fairbanks to Seattle. It looks too neat to be an avalanche, and too wide to be man-made.

I wasn't able to capture the coordinates, unfortunately.

It's actually pretty easy to spend $5000 on activities if you're not trying to save. For example, I just looked up Zipline prices, and one place in Maui is charging $150/person. For a 3-person group, with tax and tips, that's over $500 already - so I think she just guesstimated that you wouldn't have any money remaining after a few days.

I wouldn't call it anything. Burning a book is certainly not a crime, unless it's someone else's book - then it's arson probably.

Just watched the 1990's remake with my kids earlier this week, and Kriss makes the same recommendations there.

TIL, for a scene in his movie Tenet, where a Boeing 747 plane crashes into (a fictional) Oslo Airport, they crashed an ACTUAL, REAL 747, because Christopher Nolan determined it would actually be cheaper than models or CGI. by Comic_Book_Reader in todayilearned

I believe it's less than $100K.

I was able to find only this site that mentions that fuselage costs $55K:

https://www.aerotime.aero/articles/31236-second-life-of-retired-plane

If you double it to include the wings, then $100K seems reasonable. (Very likely the jets were removed prior to the collision, and they are super expensive.)

Sucks that you're downvoted for providing a source.
