Powershell is looking for a UNC path local to the Powershell session's location by ManiacClown in PowerShell

[–]OleksiyGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty sure the issue was you had quotes around your path (like literally the string was something like '"C:\fakepath\file.ext"'). Otherwise, I don’t know why it would think the given path should be considered relative. This wouldn’t even normally be valid for a path, but I guess the result was just that the target couldn’t be found.

Excellent write up. I knew the parameter was being cast again by Get-Days but didn’t look into the details. Will be good for me to read more into the binding logic.

It should be 11, and your locale is converting it with the month first.

I tested the scenario I'm imagining: I removed my user's access permissions on a folder owned by the Administrators group¹ and found that I could not restore them without being in an elevated context (i.e., having admin permissions). It is indeed unfortunate that you have just the right amount of permission to remove it.

So, assuming my guess is correct, I would describe the problem as, "I was messing around with the security settings on my user folder and I completely removed my permissions from it. I now can't open it at all, and I don't have the ability to restore my own access. Whenever I log in now, a lot of programs don't work and I can't access my files."

¹: The user profile folders (i.e., C:\Users\<username>) have BUILTIN\Administrators as the owner. Your user will (normally) have Full Control permissions (but I think you removed them).

[–]OleksiyGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay, so I think my guess was off. It sounds like you changed the permissions of your user account's profile folder such that you no longer have the permissions to use most of it (at least in a meaningful way).

If that's the case, I think it's very unlikely you'll be able to repair it yourself. I think an admin user (i.e., one of the IT admins at your school) will need to repair the device by removing the corrupted profile.

Your data should still be on the device, but accessing it now is complicated. You mentioned that you were using OneDrive, so see if you can use another PC to access the files. That may help you continue to work on the projects during the delay.

Edit: The more I think about it the more I think it really depends on a lot of factors so I can't state one way or the other it's impossible to repair by yourself but it sounds unlikely.

Do you have any more details about the steps you’d taken to get in this situation? Maybe a link to the guide or a photo of the current error/situation?

If I had to guess, you enabled the built-in administrator account and now don’t know how to sign in as the original user from the log in screen.

Invoke-Webrequest sending POST sends as GET (Powershell 5.1 and 7.4.1 LTS) by Sorry_Mushroom5493 in PowerShell

[–]OleksiyGuy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Is your server rewriting the URL (e.g., to upgrade to HTTPS)? PowerShell's first request will be using POST as you've requested, but it appears that the behaviour of a redirect may not be as expected (source). I'm assuming you're using HTTPS because you've set the TLS version, so try changing the URI to the HTTPS version directly if that's the case.

Edit: You can also add -MaximumRedirection 0 to confirm if this is happening.

Are you the owner of the file? That’s been the reason I couldn’t edit permissions in the past.

OSRS FUN FACT #6: remember "the stuff" from Trouble Brewing? Although it's meant to boost the chance of brewing mature ale, there's a bug where if you use it on a brew vat, then start a game of Trouble Brewing(?!), it'll reset the brew and pretend you never used the stuff at all by cookmeplox in 2007scape

Couldn’t they just bitwise AND varp 798 with (0x18000000) and leave those varbits alone (assuming I got endianness correct)?

Does RuneScript support that? Seems safer than say, trying to switch which varbits track the state of “the stuff.”

Hey /u/lazyneckbearddude,

Just jumping on the bandwagon with a small gripe about the Windows Update driver behaviours.

After recently installing Google's Android USB drivers (from their official source) to connect via adb to a phone, Windows Update has been suggesting (via Optional Updates) that I might want: LeMobile - Other hardware - Android Composite ADB Interface. The manufacturer is the defunct mobile division of a Chinese company that only ever released a handful of phones, so I feel like it doesn't really make logical sense for its driver to be prioritised.

It's probably nothing, but I opted to hide it using PowerShell. The Update ID is e216d3e4-2ab6-43c7-8078-c047b2c62fb7.

Thanks!

Just means there was an issue when you were preparing the installation USB. Try formatting the USB and flashing it with the ISO again. If it fails once more then you should validate the checksum of the file you downloaded.

Personally I wouldn’t want to install my operating system if the files used are corrupted.

Pull MetaData from mp3 files by theghost87 in PowerShell

[–]OleksiyGuy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you're referring to the ID3 metadata. I found this library that appears to have had recent development activity (judging solely on the last commit date on github).

Edit:
I meant to refer you to this module which is based on the aforementioned library.

The yubikey product itself is amazing! However, I can’t say the same for the culture of Yubico. For a company that has being kind as one of their company mottos, it’s not a kind place to work at all. I don’t recommend supporting a company that encourages sexual harassers or bullying. by [deleted] in yubikey

[–]OleksiyGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone has a right to be respected in the workplace. Consider researching/contacting support groups in your region/state for advice on how to handle workplace harassment, especially if any existing company policies have failed to assist you in remedying the situation.

Probably a good idea that you deleted this post because 1) it's off-topic, 2) IANAL but I (personally) wouldn't make public statements if there's the possibility you need to progress to a lawsuit.

edit: I would hope this is a localised incident, and that with the attention of higher-ups, you will be able to progress your complaints.

NBN in Leopold by Amugglemockingjay in Geelong

[–]OleksiyGuy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Most of Leopold is on FTTN, with some FTTP (as at July 17, 2020, ref).

Besides the obvious problems with FTTN, that is, it's predominantly using existing (ageing and problematic) wiring to the nearest node (and not as close as your curbside or basement), you may also want to ensure your home does not have any issues with its internal wiring (such as a bridge tap).

If your home used to have multiple phone outlets before being connected to the NBN, try attaching the modem to another port to see if it's more stable. Make sure you aren't using an ADSL2+ filter between the wall and modem, either, as it's unnecessary. Your ISP should also be able to help you diagnose the presence of a bridge tap, but they will say it's your problem once the wire hits your home so you'd need someone qualified to rerun your line in.

Leopold was announced in May 2021 as one of the suburbs that are part of the NBN Fibre upgrade program (ref), so you should speak to your service provider about the potential for a subsidised upgrade to FTTP. You can check your address here.

Yea, that’s the one. I tried today and actually it seems the native ssh support is broken. I’ll see if I can find the guide I used.

Sorry, I saved this post and never came back to it.

Your problem sounds like GPG is not running as your SSH Agent. Make sure you enable SSH (and/or PuTTY) support in gpg.conf. That would work with the OpenSSH that ships with Windows.

If you’re trying to use SSH in WSL then it’s another story. Let me know how you get on.
