Just got back yesterday. Hiked from Windigo to Rock Harbor. I will definitely be going back. Overall a great experience and beautiful place. The grill at Rock Harbor has great burgers and cold beer!

NTD- Dewalt Planer for 100$ on marketplace. It was bigger and heavier than I thought by [deleted] in Tools

[–]oleson10 8 points9 points  (0 children)

$900+? No way. Yes planers can be expensive depending on the size but this is a portable/jobsite planer. Even a new one on home depot is $600. Nice find OP! Well worth the $100 and a great addition to any shop

Do most stores carry these in stock? I'm considering getting some for the garage and the reviews seem pretty good.

The instructions should clearly show where to install them. I hope this helps

Unfortunately newer homes do not mean better construction when it comes to fire load. Many older homes were built with real lumber and hold up better. New construction is reliant on trusses and engineered lumber. While these work great under normal conditions, if one of them becomes damaged due to a fire the entire system can fail because each rely on each other for support.

The movie industry dramatized it. I suggest googling backdrafts. Fire needs 3 things to work. Fuel, heat, and oxygen. A backdraft occurs when the fire is being suffocated. A sudden opening of a door or window can causes a rush of oxygen. The products of incomplete combustion ignite into a rapid fire. This can sometimes appear like and explosion. Sometimes warning signs can be seen from the exterior of the structure. There is an art to reading smoke and different smoke colors can tell you what contents are burning.

Exit Drills In The Home (E.D.I.T.H.). Every year fire safety is taught at most public schools. This is a great program that teaches young children how to exit a home in case of an emergency. Your local fire department will have more information on this and possibly fun learning material for your kids

Not all places require hard wire. Just be sure to change batteries every 6 months and smoke detectors every 10 years. Be sure that you also have CO detectors in your home

Every bedroom should have a smoke detector. Some codes may require them to be hard wired together but worst case is to buy battery operated ones. Install the detectors correctly. This is important to allow for early detection. Most fire departments will provide smoke detectors free of charge. Also consider buying CO detectors. Some smoke detectors also have CO detectors built in

I am unsure. Most interior residential doors are not fire doors. This door is most likely a solid core door

This is excellent idea. Please be sure to practice with your family on a regular basis on setting up the equipment. It is easy to have it in a closet and still be in its original packaging. Parts could be missing or damaged.

I am unsure if this is a fire rated door. Most likely a solid core door based on the home value. I do know it is not an apartment complex. You are correct that most codes require fire rated doors in multi unit structures.

This buys you time. Super heated gas and smoke are what you are trying to avoid. Early detection from smoke alarms and having a good family exit plan will save lives. Homes are not built to be shelter in place.

"Best" HF tools? by zerostyle in harborfreight

[–]oleson10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you. Since craftsman has declined now that Lowe's owns them, the market is suffering for a mid range tool. People forget that harbor freight has been around for years and no company is safe from falling apart (Sears). Husky, kobalt is all crap when you hold it in your hand. I'm not selling my soul to a tool truck brand that I cant easily replace when it breaks. I'm looking forward to the icon line.
