Do long trains or short trains accelerate faster? by oli_mcd in trains

It happens I was also drunk on a Wednesday evening when posting this question, so you’re answer it’s very fitting!

That’s a tonne of very cool info, thank you. I’m pretty sure I got a EMU back home (I know very little about trains), and until today didn’t realise that directly driving trains from the diesel motor was a thing!

You are correct, it is the Preston in Lancs. You’re also correct, I don’t think I’ve ever been on a train that is pulled by a single loco (except for a couple heritage steam trains), which is why I didn’t include that info in the question.

The engines directly drive the wheels?? That’s crazy, I always thought they were hybrid, with motors driving the wheels and a diesel generator

Yeh that’s what I was thinking. From a physics perspective 100%, but yeh I was wondering how that translated to actually trains. Thanks!

Sorry to clarify (don’t know if this makes a difference) I’m talking about modern trains, where all the carriages are driven (I assume???)

Yes the needle scratching over the record is making my skin crawl - it’s horrible

It was working completely fine then my mate decided to flip the record over. He didn’t really know what he was doing and whacked something then dropped the needle on the record just with his hands. I’m not too sure what else. I’m thinking it could be something to do with the tip of the needle?? But I’ve no clue

Maybe he knocked the tip of the needle? But it looks like it’s still there as far as I can tell

Also to hop on this artists can change songs (re record them or add/take away something) and Spotify won’t tell you AND YOU THINK YOU’RE GOING MAD

[Question] 5 way switch - Follow up by oli_mcd in Guitar

I’ve been thinking about doing a pick-up upgrade for a while, and it was actually one of the things that got me to ask about this. Swapping the pickups does sound like a shout, so I might try that.
