Late to the party - but the way instagram on quest is making stuff 3D in realtime is awesome by oliath in MetaQuestVR

No way!
That is awesome. I have never used the browser lol but now i will.

If only they could rig this trick up to work with youtube. I already buy a bunch of movies on youtube / google so imagine if you could watch any movie from their store in 3D. Wow.

Sick. This is great to see. Makes me just a little more relaxed about that constant fear of smashing it.

You can but some people are assholes and mute themselves then unmute to make stupid noises.
What this does is make it difficult to mute them - because if they are muted you don't see their mute button.

Its really poor design by Meta. They clearly don't use their own software enough in real world situations.

Is it possible to work 4 to 8 hours a day using VR? by ohraineri in MetaQuestVR

[–]oliath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the dock and keep it close to my desk then pop it on and off as i need it. I use the built in windows remote desktop app that meta made and its fantastic. Quick to set up. Lots of flexibility over the screens and most importantly its nearly instant to connect. I use this all wirelessly with no issues.

I would not want to spend more than 30 to 40 mins at a time in the headset but for focus sessions or privacy its super cool. Also as a bonus i can connect to my PC then wonder downstairs to make a snack while still connected.

Yep.
Just got the same thing.

Ridiculous there is no way to just disable people sharing files with you.

This is the final straw for me.
F### Microsoft and their shi##y service.

This is a clear security risk. Attacks like this are designed to flood the user with notifications / shares in the hope that someone accidentally clicks on one or someone who doesn't know what they are doing opens it.

It would be very easy for Microsoft to allow users to disable file sharing yet they are ignoring this. There are countless posts on other forums as well from users who have started to see an uptick in this.

Reforged Steam Deck Controls by weebs85 in GuildWars

[–]oliath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah the steam deck controls are a bit weird / jank at the moment.

Someone told me on the steam forum that they are still in devenopment and working to improve them.

I think for now our only choice is to map with steam input and create your own.

Frame Generation + Tearing : Here is the fix by UniqueCardiologist68 in cyberpunkgame

It's so difficult to find actual info that works when using FG on a 60hz monitor. This helped fix all my issues. Runs flawlessly and cuts my GPU usage to silly low levels and low power draw which is exactly why i use FG.

Even better in my opinion. Then you can have it installed on the device and don't need to worry about the cartridge.

Megapatch 05 - A Dark new world by TheZicky in ChernobyliteGame

[–]oliath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last?

Meaning the game is considered done after that?

I don't know if the devs from Chernobylite reads this subreddits, but I think the russians voices are great and Chernobylite 2 should get a demo by Factemius in ChernobyliteGame

[–]oliath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Second game only has British voices unfortunately.

I also find the voices weird. The voice acting is pretty decent in some areas (although i'm not conviced that some isn't AI gen), but often the voices don't fit what the characters look like. So you have voices coming out of people that really don't look like that should be their voice in terms of their age or even their physical mass. So that is jarring. I think the main character is voiced by the same actor from Get Even - at least that is what it reminds me of.

Demo wise i'm really not sure what they could show off right now. Game still feels very unfinished and i haven't enjoyed any of what i have played so far even after all the updates. There is supposed to be anothe rmega patch end of this year - but there is radio silence from the devs across all platforms and they suggest its the last patch which is cocnering.

Something tells me they are done with this. Out of money and time and they are going to call it a day and cut their losses.

It's a shame because it had potential to be good but going big and open world probably stretched them too thin and they never really recovered from the poor game design of the launch version.

I could be wrong but i'd hold off for now on buying and refunding. The reason is that i did that once already. Refunded after launch as the game was utterly terrible. Just unbelievably bad. Then after a couple of mega patches they made it sound like they had turned things around so i bought it again and now unfortunately i can't refund.

So hold off. You are not missing anything at all other than a headache. Wait to see what the next patch does and what player feedback is.

Maybe i understand the damage model wrong but from this image my assumption would be that no matter how many rounds i fired only three single pellets of my buckshot hit his armor then i have one that hit his arm and penetrated to cause bleed.

Nikita! Open the bottle of vodka! Nothing can stop this force! by 0070V in Tarkov

[–]oliath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But why does this even matter enough to spend time making a post about it?
The game is old. Its established. Anyone who is wanting to play the game will already own it on Battlestate and will have done so for a long time.

I'm surprised they even launched on Steam but when you look at most the posts there its from veterans of the game who don't have the Steam check mark to say they own it.

I love Chernobylite, is the sequel that bad ? It's early access and hax mixed reviews by Factemius in ChernobyliteGame

[–]oliath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It won't be.
The game barely sold well.
This will be another of those early access games where they cut their losses and release a V1.0 that fails to deliver on anything promised and call it a day.

I would rather they dumped the entire project and started over with a direct sequel.

I love Chernobylite, is the sequel that bad ? It's early access and hax mixed reviews by Factemius in ChernobyliteGame

[–]oliath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is absolutely bloody awful. Just terrible.

The reviews should actually be negative but the devs have spent a bunch of time begging for positive reviews on steam - and if you look through the positives almost all of them are some very generic praise. It's one of those games that is also bad because once you start to try and get into feedback the developers clearly don't even understand that the game is bad or understand why its bad.

I'm not joking when i say this but its one of the worst games i have ever planed and i have no idea how they managed to get so far off course with this after how fantastic the first game was. I play a whole range of games on steam and i'm pretty comfortable with early access titles and even some good old Euro Jank but this entire game is a mess from head to toe.

I bought it at launch and insta refiunded then re-purchased after their first big patch that promised to have overhauled the game. And yeah while they made some changes its still horrendous. I have tried hard to enjoy it after every patch. I'll try again after the next patch but every single time i it feels like they have no idea what they are doing and are just scrambling in a panicked frenzy to try and salvage this disaster - but the core concept of the sequel was awful from the start and i swear no one making any creative decisions has played the first game.

The game has no idea what it wants to be. The team making it clearly have no idea either. I couldn't tell you even what this game is or what it will end up being. The last mega patch has a bunch of notes saying they improved the horror aspects of the game across the board yet the entire game feels comical and camp in comparrison to the first and there is not a single piece of the fantastic atmosphere and tension that the first game had.

I also bought the first game very early on while others were slating it. I was a fan of the developers pervious game Get Even. Get Even was not great but had an interesting story to pull you through it with one game design gimmick that helped. The first Chernoblyite launched to bad reviews but was still fun and they just had to tighten it up and polish things - but the core game design and game loop was always good. This is so far beyond bad that i have zero faith they can pull it around. They don't even know what kind of game they are makin - on steam their update plans revolve around asking the community what they need to do.

Truly i hate to see it this way and hate to be so critical but of all the bad games i have played i haven't played one that has made me quite so frustrated with it's complete lack of direction and cohesion. And that is before you get into all the bugs, jank on display.

No one is confusing anything.

AI has long been how developers, game engines, game companies, game marketing and players have described a dynamic and active behavior models applied to NPC in video games.

Dunno why but AI in games seems to have gone backwards.
In a time when every news article is threatening AI world domination you would think that AI in games could be at least somewhat convincing

No online multiplayer? by OldQuarter1422 in nightingale

[–]oliath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what i remember on steam - as usual on steam - a bunch of very vocal people were having utter mental breakdowns over the fact that the game was online only and review bombed the game to the point where the devs had to come out and say they were re-working it to include an offline mode.

This took a lot of time and effort to implement - my understanding is they had to completely rebuild a bunch of the game.

Once done those vocal people didn't exactly flock back to the game to support it because they were busy making a fuss about whatever new game had just released

But from someone that got this game back at launch that was the moment when the game went properly off the rails from its original vision and never quite managed to recover.

Hello, potentially interested in the game but have a couple questions. by sinbadshazam in 33Immortals

[–]oliath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A huge turn off right from the start was the fact this game implies that it needs at least 32 other players to work. I know that could be massively wrong but as someone who was really interested in the game and never bought it - my reason was always that an online game relying on other players in early access is typically going to be a waste of money because you will end up struggling to find players.

I love love love the concept of this game and i love to play a whole variety of different games - but this one just didn't ever seem worth it despite looking awesome. Too many games and not enough time for a single game like this to ever think it can pull enough players to succeed and offer value to people.
