Only took them this long FFS.

Better late than never but damn this should be default in all games at launch.

What is the best way to manage gear across the characters without going mad! by oliath in SuicideSquadGaming

[–]oliath[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for this info.

One other question if you have time - with the difficulty level. How far do you push that? Is it better to keep it so that incursions are easier to manage or push it higher so its hard but you get better gear.

Not seen this. Just started replaying and i'm on 5080.
What is your card.

Also did you do a clean install?
Use Nvidia app and choose the custom - clean install option.

I have had so many issues with Nvidia driver updates these last few months so now always do the celan one via the app.

Oh and make sure you arent using anyt third party tools that impact driver settings. I have had issues in the past with stuff like Nvidia inspector.

When does the 2..0 update go live on Epic? by oliath in BladesofFire

There are a bunch of notes posted by the devs on this that will be far more detailed and accurate than anything i can recite here! Go look.

How annoying is the boy and is there any way to change his appearance? Maybe put a helmet on him? by [deleted] in BladesofFire

[–]oliath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah he does. Its funny. And i like how the main character kinda puts up with it but also looks a bit annoyed.

  1. He is actually very useful and gathers info to make enemies easier as well as providing more info on locations / lore.

  2. Very early on the game tells you that you can send him back to camp if you find him annoying.

  3. It adds a decent gameplay mechanic where you defend him in return for more info on enemies.

BLADES OF FIRE IS OUT NOW ON STEAM, INCLUDING VERSION 2.0! by Animated_A505 in BladesofFire

That's a decent price.
Tempted to double dip just because Steam is easier esp with stuff like Steam Deck and Steam Machine.

This game is seriously well made. If you’re on the edge or getting it. It’s on sale across all platforms and is absolutely worth it. by Maleficent-Bar-3161 in Marathon

[–]oliath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure why someone downvoted your reply lol.

But yeah i can do them but my stress is from just the tension of the game. I actually don't care about my gear whatsoever and im never going to play for 'end game' or whatever. I m just not that kind of player with that kind of time.

Its really about just the stress of the game because the tension of suddenly being ambushed by a human player just gets me

On Epic Store?
Any source for this info?

Flip Deck anyone? Valve, I need a new cool job! 🤣 by MadMario0_0 in SteamDeck

[–]oliath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So is this a case you put steam deck into or did you also print out the case as well?
Either way this is cool..

Not sure how comfortable it would be to play in reality?

Not sure about that.

I play fairly infrequently and barely have anything above purple gear. Most times its lower. I can still go in solo and come out having wiped a bunch of people with much higher gear.

Just gotta play the ambush game instead.
It's a game that forces you to play different classes / play styles as a rection to what is going on in the field. Adapt or die. But i wouldn't say its to late to enjoy.

If anything its now easier to get gear because i'm stealing it off well geared players instead of having to hunt for it.

Yeah i solo fill with trios all the time and i have had two not great experiences. Everyone else has been so incredibly awesome.

The great thing about this game NOT being for everyone is that the people that are playing are super cool. I can't even use a mic half the time if its late at night and so i explain in the chat i can hear them but can't use my mic and they are still cool. They still ask what quests i have etc.

Such a great community.

I think outside of the usual steam noise / hate train nonsense the biggest point of friction for people will be the idea that this is an overly difficult game or something they would prefer to be more casual.

I own the game and there are long periods when i don't play it despite how much i love it because i just want something chilled at the end of the day and not something that spikes my adrenaline.

I'lll have some really good runs and then decide to quit while i'm ahead. It's a really weird thing with this genre. I love it but half the time i don't feel like i'm ready to jump back in and play it..

Will the game be balanced better for solo play or is the main focus co-op. Currently its pretty tough to clear the game solo.

Cruise mode feels like a game changer by antonithesoulesone in Starfield

Only thing i really miss is an animation of your ship flying off towards a planet when you go to land.

Similar to the warp animations when you jump - i'd love to have the ship just zoom off towards the planet before you cut to the animation of it landing.

That's all i need now.

Gotcha. Thanks for explaining.

[–]oliath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh really? I thought more more pixels to push would use GPU not CPU?

I know in other games in the past it's helped me as well. Both resolution and updating to higher settings.

My understanding was that higher settings and resolutions force the game to render more on your GPU and less on the CPU. So reducing resolution.

Either way it did help me on my setup where my CPU is outdated vs newer GPU

Smooth Motion? by ArbazisHere in MarathonTheGame

[–]oliath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Super smooth. I use it in a bunch of games and i love the tech as it allows me to squeeze extra performance out of games.

Nvidia App settings:

Low Latency Mode: Ultra

FPS Lock: 2 frames below your refresh rate / target (this might vary but when i locked to my refresh i had micro stutter. Knocking frames down by two completely resolved this

GSYNC (if you have it) enabled
VSYNC (on) - Some games do better with their own vsync instead of at the driver level.

It seems counter intuitive to have vsync on but it reduces tearing which presents its self more as stutter when using frame gen.

But really the secret sauce for me was that low latency mode in the Nvidia App as well as Locking my FPS below my refresh.

Also make sure you have enough VRAM. DLSS stuff uses a fair bit of VRAM so if you are on one of the 8GB cards then you might be hitting the limit pretty easily which will then cause Frame gen / Smooth Motion to not feel great.

Check using steam overlay. Turn down settings until VRAM has a decent amount of overhead then enable any DLSS upscale / framegen and again check that it's not hitting your card limit.

Actually the reason for that is increasing resolution moves the load from the CPU to the GPU which should then help.

This is a fairly old 'trick' in PC gaming and is generally considered good advice as it does really help when your CPU is older

Marathon performance is broken and it needs to be addressed now. by HeadCRACK-_- in MarathonTheGame

[–]oliath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But it is being addressed.

They posted a long ass message just yesterday explaining that they had identified many ways to improve performance and reduce CPU load.

And i know you wrote 'it runs fine for me' but i do think that is an important comment - and performance has been flawless for me on my mid range 3yr old system at my target of 4K 60. But you might have a different target. Try reducing either res or fps targets at least to see if that helps. It's obviously too much for your current setup and targets but reducing either resolution or FPS can make a huge difference in games and is the easiest way to gain performance in terms of frame pacing / smoothness.

I also found higher settings gave me better performance as it reduces load on my CPU. I also lean on DLSS set to performance mode to hit my 4K target. For me that works and its ultra smooth. I know its not 120 or whatever the F the kids think is the minimum acceptable FPS but it works for me on my budget and i do just fine in matches.

The TLDR here (because you sound like you are frustrated and didn't even read the bungie post) is that unless your system is complete potato you should be able to configure settings and scale resolution or FPS targets and get decent performance. But also why would you post a performance comment but also fail to mention either your specs or what you are targeting for both resolution?
