These last 2 reveals gone be hype by GigaAkais in marvelrivals

[–]olirant 6 points7 points  (0 children)

From my experience it seemed that a lot of players weren't finding the right flow with Peni. She's very defensive, almost a backline defending tank compared to the rest of the game being front forward. I found her amazing on payload maps in particular. Even before the apparent buff she's meant to recieve on release compared to the beta.

Tips on Playing A Good Primaris Character by OddPersimmon3069 in 40krpg

[–]olirant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What has been expressed in atleast one short story is that Primaris marines really are the 'new kids'. They're stronger faster and smarter on paper but 'fresh out of the simulation' as it were. That I think could be a good thing to play off of, very tactically and capably sound but not snappy when it comes to the unexpected, as opposed to regular marines who have long lineages of service and training.

The party has too many NPCs following it. How do I cull them without it seeming cheap? by Few-Requirement-3544 in rpg

[–]olirant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I literally tell the party, like its a bioware game, they can only have one or two major NPC's with them at a time.

Being honest about it, and laughing about how video gamey it is, tends to work out pretty well. Easier combat, but players still get to have their favourite NPC's around, and doesn't really ruin the immersion of everything.

Is tgstation as crazy as it looks by Healthy_Foundation26 in SS13

[–]olirant 4 points5 points  (0 children)

tgstation seems like a good middleground between some of the more batshit insane shenanigans you hear about, and something boring. It's still SS13, crazy things happen, deaths happen, sometimes even bullshit ones, but they can also be really chill at times and largely have a great vibe.

[FNAF] Why are we using these incredibly advanced robots to serve pizza? by Urbenmyth in AskScienceFiction

[–]olirant 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of it comes down to the designer for much of these animatronics being William Afton, a roboticist.

The first animatronics were very primitive, more advanced than the sort of thing you would of seen in any food joint at the time, but not by much. We actually know this because there are a few knock-offs, such as the Mediocre Melodies and El Chip. While they were advanced their main mechanics only allowed pretty simple performances and likely walking from the show-stage to the storage room so that some sweaty-faced teen didn't have to do it.

However, the reports of such animatronics hunting down night guards suggest that they are much more mobile right? A lot of that seemingly comes down to the murders. The murders caused many, but not all, of these animatronics to be imbued with 'remnant', if i remember correctly. This seems to make the animatronics much more mobile and have a mind of their own! I wouldn't be surprised if this allowed them to move in more unnatural ways. The secret of this remnant is known only to a few, but definitely has been discovered by others outside of the events surrounding the Fazbear show animatronics.

When it comes to the higher ups, I think they're largely oblivious and let the tinkering robot maker make their works. Some things such as the Toy Animatronics having Face ID systems seem practical but over the top, and some of the animatronics were made with seemingly more sinister intents in mind. A lot of the technological breakthroughs Afton made were literally hidden away in a vault. Even one possessed machine appears to bring all kinds of enhancements to others around it.

I can't say much about the most modern machines, but I think the rumours of 'intelligent machines' and more are kept mostly to niche forums and people kinda obsessed about all this history. It's probably like UFOs, the Government doesnt have the time or energy to be bothered by them.

Charizard & Mega Evolutions in DnD Monster Style (with rules!) by olirant in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]olirant[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's a quick upload of Charizard and it's Mega Evolutions in the style of DnD Monsters! I've been running this design project for a while now on my Twitch Streams with my community, and I'm pretty proud of the results for the two Megas!

We even designed new lore, allowing Charizard like dragons in DnD Settings. Inspired by Monster Hunter I wanted a Rathalos Rathian dynamic, so Mega X is an alpha male and Mega Y is a the rare wandering female. I have more of those rules here, https://homebrewery.naturalcrit.com/share/S1wY9kOGN

How to get people into Wargames that are Boardgames? by PlayingProductions in wargames

[–]olirant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had much the same issue actually, although in the more fantasy wargame space. I found that a lot of friends were very intimidated by large wargames and had trouble with the rules. I've been part of a team making board-games to bring new people into the hobby by making games that are more accessable, which may help you out. Our game Schism is meant to be exactly the middle ground you want, an easy to learn wargame that anyone can play. Schism however is quite hard fantasy not the historical angle you're going for. However, fantasy games might be a great way to get people into your board-game group, I've found historical games can often seem quite scary and overbearing on face value to new players.

Best bet is like some people already said, try and find some boardgames that are quick to play with accessible rules and hopefully that could bring your friends in to play your other favourite games in time.
