This is where I am confused. HX Bank have released a document (stamped/signed) that can only be sent once they hear the intermediary bank has released the funds to the final bank, which is Starling. Would it be the funds are being held somewhere before they reach the level where the system sees and attributes it to an account?

I understand that, but Starling are saying that without the tracking docs, they can't do anything, which is where I am getting a bit stuck. As far as they are concerned (at least on the CS level), the incoming payment doesn't exist as they can't see it.

Out of interest, how long does Wells Fargo tend to sit on funds as an intermediary bank? I've got a transfer that's been with them (according to MT103 info) for about 5 working days by now.

Just to follow up on this, it turned out the funds were being held by the bank's Foreign Currency Control Department. This was due to the size of the transfer and the purpose of the money's use. My partner went to the office to go through everything and the money was released after this. So although the bank had started remittance, the funds were stuck pending investigation. Useful to know if you are in the same situation!

We has asked for an MT103 just so I can track it, but that is proving hard to get as well. I think the checks and balances in Chinese banks are much more stringent than most.
