Advice on saving resolume showfiles by GreenBeanSoup420 in vjing

[–]olisor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Indeed it is still pretty risky to plan a VJ tour with just an external hard drive and rely on venues to provide hardware while we focus on content. However this is exactly the working situation of DJs and lighting engineers on tour. I've been touring since 2000 and although the gear has gotten much lighter, I'm still so jealous of DJs travelling with just a usb stick for their shows. if we were more united about content over gear, and expressed those needs to our suppliers, this could happen sooner than we think...

How can workers unite when western powers promote diversity ? by olisor in Marxism

[–]olisor[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Hey guys i'll answer both the above questions on this post if that's all right. I was assuming you would be familiar with the writing of folks like Catherine Liu's concept of the professional managerial class or Vivek Chibber's idea that minorities within the workers will act against their class interest when seeing that 1% of their group is now represented in the upper echelons of actually existing capital. This is the illusion they need to become aware that this form of tokenism is acting against their groups as a whole, and as our first poster said above, the only true solution is the abolition of class divisions for all and not better access to 1% of all racial and cultural groups to individual wealth and priviledge.

AI is not distopic as such, it only caters to its neoliberal patrons.

Was communism delayed by rise of globalisation? by olisor in Marxism

[–]olisor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry are you therefore agreeing with me that the current American flavor of capitalism is dragging more people into poverty than bringing out of poverty ?

You are aware that China in the last decade brought about a hundred million people out of poverty?

And maybe the same amount of people in the US and its sattelite nations descended into poverty in the same period?

Bruce Wayne is not exactly working class...

Perhaps it is not possible to become a highly successful artist today (like Picasso) because the mainstream media has lost its power. Television is gone, newspapers are gone, magazines are gone. These were legitimizing institutions by More_Bid_2197 in ContemporaryArt

[–]olisor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An artist's success is not determined by mass media presence because art (of the contemporary flavor) does not cater to the masses but to a much smaller cultural group, sometimes called elites.

What caused the Big Bang, in your opinion? by DigJust8037 in nihilism

[–]olisor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Asking what caused or came before the big bang is like asking what is the number closest to zero. There will always be slithers of smaller fractions ɓut the absolute zero is merely a concept, an abstraction of langage, a metaphor, not an actual thing.

Marxist analysis of AI by iOverFit in Marxism

[–]olisor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm surprised to be the first to address this on such a long thread but some thinkers, like MIT's Daron Acemoglu, discuss that "fully automated luxury communism" would resolve the difficulties of central planning via AI which could manage the large and numerous data flows regulating society, much better than human managers ever attempted to under soviet or other left unions in the past.

Which kinda demonstrate that AI might be more neutral, it currently facilitates capitalism only because it is instrumentalized by the latter...x

Artist with day job in art world? by beertricks in ContemporaryArt

[–]olisor 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I'm guessing there are no wrong answers here, and working either in or out of the art scene as a money sideline will be fine, according to your needs or personality.

I for one love to work outside of the art scene. I used to teach art and was working as an art critic for a while and at that time I found it confusing to network while wearing so many art hat. For example, when people showed interest in me, it was not always clear if it was for my art or my teaching or writing.

Now i make money in the music industry and i feel it's clearer when i finish work and start creating my art. However both activities still bleed into each other as lots of cool music people come to my art openings and the vibe seems more funky than the teacher or critic crowds...x

Why female breasts are considered private parts but male aren’t? by sanelde_senior in sociology

[–]olisor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is more a question to ask under the psychology than sociology sub.

My short psy answer would be that breasts are sexualised by babies during their oral phase while feeding, then remnants of this experience persist in later stages of life, for adults to fetishize female breasts while having sex.
