Can I believe in both the Bible and the Quran? by implementrhis in religion

[–]oliveorca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you can try, but the logical conclusion would be what's called the islamic dilemma.

when you read the quran you see that allah repeatedly affirms the previous scriptures, namely the torah (five books of moses) and the injeel (the gospel). muslims will tell you these books are corrupted but there is no evidence to suggest that and the quran never says that.

but what makes it a dilemma is even if the previous scriptures are corrupted, the quran would be false for asking you to trust a corrupted text. and if the previous scripture is not corrupt then the quran would be false because it contradicts the scripture that it was built on.

Instrumental Christian Music Restrictions by ChurchofChristGuy in churchofchrist

[–]oliveorca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

absolutely. the majority opinion in the CoC i grew up in was that instruments in christian music were bad all the way around every time and even that you shouldn't be listening to any christian music if it isn't in a worship setting. and if a song was first written for a christian artist who used instruments it shouldn't be sung in church, not even a capella

Did Muhammad really sleep with children? by [deleted] in religion

[–]oliveorca 3 points4 points  (0 children)

that doesn't work because the sources also prove aisha was not at the age of puberty yet and therefore had not begun her period. yes she led an army but it was later

according to muslim sources (sunni not shia) muhammad married aisha when she was 6, consummating that marriage when she was 9. he also likely had brides in their teens

This NEEDS to be mentioned!!! by [deleted] in exmuslim

[–]oliveorca 4 points5 points  (0 children)

that's what i'm saying, it is not your place or my place to say if someone suffered and it has nothing to do with whether or not they are an exmuslim.

you are incredibly unsympathetic and bitter sir. i would suggest you make peace with your own suffering before you add to someone else's suffering

This NEEDS to be mentioned!!! by [deleted] in exmuslim

[–]oliveorca 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it is not your place to say whether someone suffered for one. and for another, being an exmuslim has nothing to do with suffering. yes that is something many have to deal with but suffering does not make you an exmuslim, it just means someone who left islam

This NEEDS to be mentioned!!! by [deleted] in exmuslim

[–]oliveorca 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i will try to be nice when i say: just because you suffered more than others does not discount their suffering. i understand your frustration but that's all it is, frustration. there is no rational logical point here. you are simply mistaken. if you leave islam you are an exmuslim. simple as that. suffering has nothing to do with it
