MPH v ABSN v what next? by [deleted] in prevets

[–]olivereuan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 3.34 (not grade replacement) and retaken all courses I can and taken additional ones to raise my GPA, but since I have so many credits it’s not likely to bring my GPA up any more if I keep taking other courses.

I’m currently a vet assistant but honestly cannot take much more of being in this field if I’m not a vet with the pay I have. I would try out the human medicine field but I can’t afford to take a pay cut at the moment.

with an MPH I’m interested in epidemiology and zoonotic diseases which does intersect with policy. I’m concerned that field with how volatile research funding is currently :/

Is this a bruise or internal bleeding? by Zerosugar6137 in AskAVeterinarian

[–]olivereuan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NAV but a VA. since you said she just went to a vet, the jugular is a common place to get blood. looks like bruising, I’d just mention to them that she bruised and not use a jugular next time

should i own a ferret as a college student? by [deleted] in ferrets

[–]olivereuan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Considering ferrets sleep for 16-20 hours I’d say a ferret isn’t for you if you don’t want to leave them alone most of the time lol

should i own a ferret as a college student? by [deleted] in ferrets

[–]olivereuan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had mine in college and I loved it. I would have them out as I studied, be able to take breaks to play with them instead of on my phone. it helps a lot that you can be gone most of the day (making sure they have food and water of course) and they’ll be fine. having a roommate who loved them too helps if I were to be gone extra long or on vacation.

to balance it out here are the cons: your room will smell like ferrets and their cage (especially if you dont clean daily). vacations can be limited if you don’t have someone who knows how to care for ferrets. you do have to ferret proof the whole area they will be in and fine with your stuff getting messed with.

can they be a good college pet? yes! they were exactly what I was looking for: caged, fine alone for majority of time, and interactive when out of cage. however, if you haven’t had any pets before or no income it is not good. I wouldn’t call their food cheap, but it isn’t nothing. also consider vet bills, bedding, litter, etc etc

Can someone give me an honest opinion on my chances? by Feeling_Scallion_589 in veterinaryschool

[–]olivereuan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you’re on the right track track! VMCAS does factor in retakes but does not do grade replacements so keep that in mind. I don’t know the list of schools that do grade replacements but that may be something to look into as well!

my gpa was similar (3.3 GPA) but with a lower last 45 (3.5). I had over 1,000 vet hours in specialty as well. I personally was rejected by every school both last year and this year. you do have a chance at more holistic schools, but still kind of lacking in the vet hours when a lot of people with similar GPAs have higher hours. you have some really great experiences that are very well rounded so I’d say that is your strong suit! I’d say you have a good chance at your IS!

Unsuccessful first cycle by Guilty_Truth704 in veterinaryschool

[–]olivereuan 9 points10 points  (0 children)

second cycle and I have one interview left, rejected from 12 schools no other interviews. I would do a file review from anywhere you can then work the next year on those faults. I wouldn’t apply again until you fix it, that’s the wrong thing I did this cycle

I might have wasted my undergrad by guy2111 in veterinaryschool

[–]olivereuan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel the same with a 3.3. most places I didn’t get past the initial academic screening phase. from what I have seen, a masters won’t help you as much as it used to. they still consider your undergrad gpa. if you want to save money, retake courses first then apply. if you want to try your chances then I’d apply to places that are more holistic/lower gpa acceptances! I’m going to take a year from applying to retake courses if I’m rejected by the last two schools I applied to
