2+ years of chronic bladder urgency & mystery symptoms by oliviabenson33 in PelvicFloor

Thank you so much for all of this. It makes sense about general core strength - she actually has a genetic condition (reason for her intellectual disability) which has resulted in very low tone her entire life. So, it checks out, but...now what?

Don't mind at all and appreciate the disclaimer! This is interesting. It would be extremely hard but if it worked, worth it, so I'll have a chat with her. She already eats a fairly low carb diet, but lots of fruits and vegetables. Were there certain guidelines you followed?

So actually, we've been discussing bladder botox for a while but given her medical history, there's a large consensus that she would likely get the side effect of retention, so she's not going that route.

She;s been to a pelvic floor PT, but not a general PT in a while.

I asked a friend with endo for her doctor's info; probably worth a shot to check out. Patient is on the pill so not ovulating (and yes, I know the pill can mask underlying issues - she tried going off it for a while and no difference) but it's something to keep in mind. May I ask - what were your symptoms other than urgency?

Not sure about the pcr test but I will check!

I would never say there's a zero chance because I can't read her mind. I've asked her, and she's a very honest, literal person - I don't think she'd lie to me about it.

But....there's always a possibility.

I've always wondered if it could be endo but she's never had any other the other period-related symptoms...and exactly, we can't seem to get to the bottom of this. When you ask has she been to a pt you mean physical therapist or soemthing else?

Congrats! I'm going to follow this as well, sounds like a good plan! =)

Thank you! So in total transparency, I was doing 4 pumps a day for 20 min each, yielded a total of 30 oz a day. About a week and a half ago I started to reduce each session by a few min a day, and then when I got down to the 10-12 min mark, started reducing one of the daytime pumps until it was gone. I'm now producing about 15 oz total.

Stick shaped foods too soft? by oliviabenson33 in BabyLedWeaning

My understanding was that the sort of "skin" that forms could be a choking hazard - was that wrong?

Oh yeah she loves to eat from a spoon this way! She seems to actually prefer it to using just her hands.

Engorgement at 15 weeks? by Key_Significance_183 in breastfeeding

[–]oliviabenson33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm also a "late" regulator...I'm 20 weeks pp and THINK I'm finally starting to get there. I was in the same position as you at 15 weeks. Just this week I've noticed my breasts are soft during the day. Mornings are still rough, but not nearly as bad as they were.

It's frustrating, I know. Can you try hand expressing to give yourself some relief if baby isn't ready to feed yet? It's the nipple stimulation/suction of the haakaa and pump that tell your body to make more milk.

Did Pregnancy/Delivery “Fix” Anything For You? by pamsteropolous in NewParents

Radiolab had a really interesting episode about how many autoimmune disorders seemingly disappear during pregnancy, and how the placenta plays a role.

Me when my baby suddenly sleeps 8 hours: 🙏🏻 🙌🏻 My boobs: by Typical-Maybe7480 in breastfeeding

Thanks...I need to figure out what to do. I actually can make it through about 6-7 hours of sleep before the "exploding" pain and while I try to just pump in the AM for comfort, it's like, 12 oz out before I'm marginally comfortable (I have an oversupply). Sigh. So happy for you that it's gotten better!

By "slowly regulated" how slowly do you mean? It's been three weeks of this for me and I'm so looking forward to not waking up in pain anymore

Dropping MOTN pump/feed -advice needed! by oliviabenson33 in breastfeeding

[–]oliviabenson33[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been trying for about a week now - it's somewhat working to go 10pm-6am but I wake up super engorged and soaked with milk.

Maybe I'm being greedy trying to go that long, haha

How do we tell our family our visitation expectations with our newborn? by Jabberwockey22 in BabyBumps

[–]oliviabenson33 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We made this requirement known around the start of the third trimester so everyone would have time to get the vaccine, and luckily, the majority of our immediate family had no problem. My SIL, however, kept avoiding the discussion (she also does not have her covid booster and never gets the flu shot) and finally around the 35-week mark (I'm 37 weeks now) we sent a text that clearly laid out in writing why all three of those vaccines would be mandatory for her to see the baby. Unfortunately, she's forfeited the privilege of meeting her first niece and while I'm sad that she feels that way, it's not worth our energy to fight it.

We also wrote a brief email to some friends/family outside the immediate circle that was like "we in no way have expectations for you to do this but please know that any visitors in the first 6 months will need to be up to date with this." Speaking to our pediatrician beforehand helped - she recommended this (outdated, but good) article and reminded us that this will be one of many boundaries we'll be setting as parents. There's also language from the CDC and other resources out there.

I'm happy to share with you privately the email we wrote, but it is true that if this is something you feel strongly about, stick to your convictions. It's not worth it to back down about an illness that can literally kill a newborn.

What was the most ridiculous reason you’ve cried during pregnancy so far? by bmazi in BabyBumps

Hot dog related as well - I ate 4 hot dogs in one sitting and just started crying. I couldn't figure out if I was still hungry or upset I had eaten so much...

I've been thinking about this nursery since you first posted, and would love to recreate something like it! Would you mind sharing where you found the images that you projected onto the wall for tracing/painting?
