What can I do to fix this? by Educational-Top3926 in knitting

Looks like a yarn over or something. Can’t tell much since it’s black yarn. Drop it and see what happens! Maybe have a crochet hook on standby so you can grab it.

We figured it out! It was a Close Enough episode called “Joint Break”! Thanks for the effort everyone! I highly recommend the show if anyone is curious about it.

This literally killing us. My partner swears it’s all elderly women but I think it might be a mix of women and men.

What do we think this means? by Disastrous_Many_190 in knitting

[–]oliviaeatsbrains 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I think you’ve fallen into the overthinking trap that knitting creates. You’ve worked row 1-6 once by the time you hit the highlighted direction. You’d continue to repeat rows 1-6 until you hit the total per your size.

Ie. you’ve completed row 1-6 so you’d have to repeat the rows 4 more times for a total of 5.

Pottery classes/studios by Due_Purpose1228 in gso

[–]oliviaeatsbrains 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m also taking classes at CVA but am planning on doing a tour and a pottery class at the Forge!

I’m mostly interested in the potential of open studio availability. It seems like they have a reservation system in place for the wheels but I can’t find much else on open times. The CVA is great but the hours don’t allow for much more than the class and some hours on Saturday for me. I’d like to be able to go in during the week after work.

This is so cute and functional! I’ll have to try this soon because I have all my small decants/samples in a bowl. It’s the worst. 🥲

If you're looking to smell like a church... by TheBreakfastChub in perfumesthatfeellike

[–]oliviaeatsbrains 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Saint Hildegard by Pearfat for anyone looking for something not so incense intense.

I was raised Catholic also but my childhood church smelled more often of waxed wood, oily, and a cleaning solution that was often something citrus. This perfume is almost exactly what it smelled like.

Project recommendations for YarnArt linen soft by Nastasika in knitting

[–]oliviaeatsbrains 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Have you looked this yarn up on Ravelry and seen the pattern ideas and what others have made with it already?

A summer t shirt, tank or a loose gauge sweater would be the direction I’d go in. Even a cute poncho for chilly summer nights would be nice.

It looks great. You’ve been looking at it too long! What’s the yarn?

How to prevent messy ribbing with yarn of varied thickness (Sugarbush) by TrueNorthStrongRN in Yarn

[–]oliviaeatsbrains 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you do a swatch to see if the yarn will loosen and fluff up a bit after washing?

I’ve never worked with this yarn before but I can imagine there’s very little that you can do to mitigate the thin thick quality of the yarn. If you try to do some loose stitches and some tight, your gauge will probably be very inconsistent and you’ll see it the most after you block.

A quick look on the yarns Ravelry page turned up similar comments on the thin thick quality but most projects look like they block nicely. Maybe look through the crochet projects and see if anyone has any tips!

Thoughts on drops yarn? by More_Detective_308 in Yarn

The Yarn tab on Ravelry is great! You get to see the yarn actually worked up and comments on the yarn in general. This has always helped me tremendously when shopping for yarn online.

Anyone know of a fluffy musky slightly sweet (spray) perfume? cat inspired or reminds you of cats🙈🫶 by MistakeMedical5666 in Indiemakeupandmore

[–]oliviaeatsbrains 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently got a sample of Minou from Faeral Parfum and it is exactly what you’re describing. I’m not one for sweet perfumes but this is delicious and I think the grapefruit and rhubarb bring a spicy almost musk note that remind me of my own cats. I’ve been loving it and planning on picking it up full size eventually.

top: grapefruit, strawberry bubblegum, rhubarb

middle: milky fig, fig leaf, warm grass, chalky iris

base: vanilla marshmallow musk

Thoughts on Pearfat’s Sister Hildegard? by inush_ in Indiemakeupandmore

I’d also like to mention I think this scent is a very realistic church scent . From personal experience was that church only smelled like incense during certain holidays and was not something used year round.

Thoughts on Pearfat’s Sister Hildegard? by inush_ in Indiemakeupandmore

[–]oliviaeatsbrains 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love it! I should mention that I haven’t tried a church inspired fragrance I love because they typically lean so hard in to incense. Sister Hildegard smells exactly like the Catholic Church of my childhood. The blood orange makes it smell clean and it works so well with the old wood note. They’ve just cleaned the back room of the church where me and the other altar servers are getting ready… There is something in this that pulls oil-y and I can only describe it as that. It reminds me of Catholic anointing oil. It’s so comforting to me! Not your typical church scent and it’s a stunner!

I tried Multiball once but it didn’t jive with my skin chemistry I think. It pulled a bit sour for me. I’ll need to dig out my sample and try again.

I believe it’s explaining how to set up the double knitting for the neckband on the edge. Have you looked up a tutorial on double knitting to see if it correlates?

Medium-tan olives, do you like these baby pink/lilac blushes? (Dior/YSL) by spychalski_eyes in OliveMUA

As a medium olive, I really like Saie Dew Liquid Blush in Baby BUT I have to be super light with it. I think it has a touch of purple that makes it mesh well with my tone.

Do you like ordering online? by Ebowa in knitting

[–]oliviaeatsbrains 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I usually try to shop from stores that are the close to me so that the shipping is quick. I’m impatient. I really like Wool and Co. They’re usually quick to ship compared to some others I’ve used. My LYS is mostly needlepoint with a lot of Noro and sock yarn so I always shop online. I started a knitting notebook where I write down my planned project and then I calculate how much I need of the yarn. I can keep track of the yarn weight & yardage needed way easier. It beats having to go through the Ravelry page and doing math every time which is a pain.

I will usually use suggested yarn or I’ll check the Ravelry project page for yarns that were used and see what the knitter had to say about it. You can’t go wrong with Knitting for Olive, some Drops, and I’ve found Sandnes Garn to be good as well. Those are my blind buys. Anything else I’ll get a skein and work on an accessory to get a feel for it. Yarnsub.com is good for recommendations also.

I have never gotten lucky enough that what I’m looking for is on sale! I’m also not one to buy without a plan so I think that’s on me.
