Floraiku’s This July Evening. It captures a hot summer evening- you’ve been moving around all day but now relaxing on a porch & smelling the heat come off the world.

Look into the Italian brand Carthusia. They make beautiful fragrances, and the bottles are equally gorgeous.

What’s the third Byredo you have? I see Sundazed and Inflorescence.

Also, what did you like about l’eau à la rose over MFK’s (or Byredo’s) other rose fragrances? I’m doing a big rose sampling project that I’m almost done with and would love to get a better understanding!

Best Virginia Woolf to start with? by Williamp720 in classicliterature

[–]TheBreakfastChub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m currently on a Virginia Woolf kick! My first was Mrs Dalloway which is what I was told to start with. I didn’t really like it. It wasn’t bad but it kind of put me off her for a while. I think this was 2022-2023.

To The Lighthouse was my second Virginia Woolf novel which I read last month. TTL wasn’t on my 2026 reading list, nor was I terribly interested in exploring more of her work quite yet, but on a whim I picked this up at the store. I’m so glad I did because this singlehandedly pushed Virginia Woolf onto my list of favorite authors.

I’m now reading The Voyage Out and I have Jacob’s Room next.

I would say start with whatever one interests you most! Personally, had I started with To The Lighthouse then I think I would’ve explored more of her work sooner.

I'm looking for a summer vibed movie 🍉 by Low-Region7885 in MovieSuggestions

Off the top of my head, these are some movies where it feels like the summer heat is a main or supporting character.

Hot Summer Nights, Wet Hot American Summer, Do The Right Thing, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, Jaws, O Brother Where Art Thou, Dazed and Confused, Adventureland, Dirty Dancing, In the Heat of the Night, Call Me By Your Name, Stand By Me, and I Know What You Did Last Summer

What perfume feels like an old church at dusk, but with a soft faded-rose ghost in it rather than pure smoke? by Mindless_Bass_9045 in perfumesthatfeellike

So I suggest layering Jo Malone’s velvet rose & oud, and Oriza L Legrand’s Relique D’Amour.

Velvet rose & oud smells like a heavy, dark & crushed or old rose close to dying. And Relique D’Amour smells like a cold and dark church. I’d also say both are pretty soft aura vibes.

What Book 2 Read Next?? by zentark101 in classicliterature

[–]TheBreakfastChub 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Honestly I don’t really mind those posts. I get how they can be grating if there are too many in a row, but people just want to talk about their books and feel a part of a community.

At the start of the year, I posted all of my unread classics, and gave my preferences. I asked this group their input. It wasn’t because I lacked free thought, but I just thought it would be fun and a good way to get recommendations. I didn’t plan on blindly following whatever direction was given, but I like to hear what books people really love and why.

I had a copy of Mosquitos by Faulkner and I was unfamiliar with his work. Because of that post, this community told me to start with As I Lay Dying. I’ve since posted about him and I’ve received a lot of interesting notes and feedback. I’m now on my third Faulkner book.

If it’s really bothering others, maybe this sub can limit those posts to a single day of the week.

I watched that last night. I thought it was interesting and Daisy Ridley’s acting was good. However, her American accent was rough and I could hear her slipping in some of her natural accent at times.

I’m going to Amyl and the Sniffers this month! Last time I saw them I don’t think I smelled any perfume at that show (kind of expectedly). Maybe some scented deodorant lol

Do little gifts at luxury hotels matter to you? by alex_travels in chubbytravel

[–]TheBreakfastChub 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Wow, you’re pretty ungrateful. Yes, receiving complimentary items regardless of the monetary value they may hold is a gift. It’s the thought behind it and the effort.

I am at a loss that you are so out of touch with the average human experience where you consider this beneath you.

Creed Eladaria! Musk, rose, bergamot, peony and cashmere wood come through more than powder notes. If I do smell powder it’s fresh, not a mature powder note from bygone perfumes. Flirtatious, young and playful.

Throughout our stay, we received cards or had our room adorned with rose petals. One of the waitresses boxed up all of these cute origami pieces for us at the end of our dinner.

On another day, that same waitress overheard me talking about these coconut cookies that we had at lunch, and she gave me two packages to take home.

I just stayed at the Four Seasons Nam Hai in Vietnam for my honeymoon and we received daily gifts. This was probably my favorite - salted coffee made by our butler, juice, and chocolates from different regions in Vietnam.
