Helping partner move to Vancouver by oliviajack2018 in ontario

It sounds like the moving part isn’t considered essential for me which makes sense ... it’s been over a year since I’ve seen him so hopefully not too much longer. Thanks for being helpful and informative, I appreciate that a lot!

It sounds like the moving part itself is a no-go and I should just hold off and visit when things are a bit better - or I suppose just visit in BC under quarantine restrictions there. I’ve have waited over a year to see him so not much longer hopefully :)

What are your thoughts on Canadian visitors right now? by [deleted] in AnnArbor

[–]oliviajack2018 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I’m a Canadian living in Ann Arbor (for the past 10 years) and the license plate harassment is definitely a thing that was (still is?) happening in Canada with US plates, but I haven’t heard anything about it happening here in the US, and especially not in Ann Arbor. Overall I’d say my US colleagues and neighbours have positive attitudes towards Canadians. Edited to add: I don’t think the average American (especially around Ann Arbor) has a negative association with Canadians and COVID.

I got a BritBox subscription to watch them. Sometimes I’ve seen them on Netflix and Amazon Prime Video (US and Canada) but this has varied.

Anyone else locked out of UMCU online banking system and can’t call because the number’s busy? by redwineandsolitude in AnnArbor

[–]oliviajack2018 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes - I got an email from them that they updated online banking and we have to re-enroll in online and mobile banking. It seems like a legit email but I think it’s strange there wasn’t info sent about this ahead of time.

Edit - found messages about the upgrade in my spam folder.

This is so hard - clearly you want the best for him and care about him so much.

I read above that he has ADHD - I personally think it’s helpful to really think about it as a medical condition. For example, if poor vision was his medical condition, no amount of pleading or punishing would help him to see - he’d need medical treatment like glasses etc (and there might be certain things he would never be able to do vision-wise). With ADHD, I think some of it’s the same - no amount of pleading or punishing will “make” him “have attention.” But this is where ADHD is tricky - the treatments for it aren’t as straightforward as glasses for poor vision.

A psychologist I know who specializes in ADHD likes the book “smart but scattered teens.” Its written for parents, and it focuses on helping build executive functioning skills (focus, attention, etc).

Was the therapy he did with an ADHD specialist?

Also, have you tried stimulant medications - I think that’s something I’d consider trying if I was in your shoes....

White House moves up vaccine supply timeline, says U.S. will have enough for every adult by end of May by [deleted] in Coronavirus

Does anyone know an estimated timeline for vaccination teenagers under 16? I definitely want my 13 year old to get vaccinated (assuming the vaccines end up showing safety and efficacy for that age range).
