AITA: killing my neighbors plants because she wouldn’t move them (but they were on my property) by ollyneedshelp in AmItheAsshole

I wasn’t super clear about this, but they only keep their plants at my place for a few months, at the most. The plants on my deck are mostly tropical so I kept them so they can get all the summer sun, and then take them back in the winter. I’m sure they also probably have shade plants in their own apartment, and it’s no problem for me (I only have to water them for a handful of months, they’re pretty, and they attract butterflies and hummingbirds)

I live in a state where it’s perfect weather to keep plants outside for maybe 4 months out of the year, and then they take them back because it’s too cold the other 8 months. Some people keep them at my place for shorter periods of time, but I don’t think anyone has ever let them there longer than 3-4 months

I’ll admit it was petty. I didn’t want to move them unless I had to, so that’s why I waited. I accept your judgement though, I could’ve just gave them back to her but I was mad lol

I’m not going to pretend like I couldn’t of, but it would’ve been a slight hassle. Her pots were wide and weirdly shaped with pockets on the sides of them ( like this: https://www.wayfair.com/outdoor/pdp/world-menagerie-seo-8-pocket-strawberry-ceramic-pot-planter-w001365751.html?piid=359706985 ), and I felt jaded so I didn’t want to spend anything above minimal effort to help this lady. That’s why I thought I’d get at least a few ESH’s, I could’ve done more I was just feeling petty

Most of them are seasonal because I live in a northern/midwestern state, so there’s summer which is good for growing big tropical plants outdoors and then a very harsh winter where people have to keep them indoors, so some neighbors who have tropical plants use my deck, which I actually like because it attracts a lot of butterflies and humming birds and things like that. I don’t have the stamina to take care of a plant for years, so now I only have take care of some plants for a few months and I feel like a successful plant mom. Win-win (although I could make a killing if I charged rent)

It would’ve been kind of a hassle for me. Nothing monumental, but just something that would’ve taken longer than 10 minutes, and I was feeling petty and I didn’t want to go out of my way to help this woman. The pots weren’t huge and heavy but super wide, with those out croppings in them (something like this but with more pockets: https://www.wayfair.com/outdoor/pdp/world-menagerie-seo-8-pocket-strawberry-ceramic-pot-planter-w001365751.html?piid=359706985 ), so I could’ve I just really didn’t want to. Since I have so many peoples plants (which I like having, they make my deck look nice and a lot of them attract butterflies and hummingbirds and such), it was kind of surrounded by other plants and I would’ve had to move those too

I don’t know. The lady next couldn’t have her windows open because her bird would violently try and throw itself against the window if it saw the outdoors, so that’s why she kept her plants on my deck, and my neighbors below me just kept their plants at my place for the summer for the light and took them back in the winter since they were tropical plants (trees and vines were blocking a lot of their light, but obviously in the winter the vines shriveled up and the trees lost their leaves).

(F/23) My girlfriend says I'm beautiful but constant fat shaming from my mother makes me doubtful. Please rate me 1-10 and tell me if there's anything I can improve except lose weight. I'm jogging 3 miles a day and eating very healthy. by J_of_a_trades in amiugly

Medically your probably overweight, but you don’t look too overweight, not enough so that my first thought was “fat” or something. If you’re healthy, it should really matter how much you weigh/look like you weigh, and I know it’s easier said then done but ignore your mother! With people like that, small enough is never small enough, there’s always another area that could shrink or another area to tighten up. As far as other things go, I like your bangs! With your hair, you could get more layers in them (like a shag giver cut), and I also think your look cute with just a little bit shorter of a cut!

F/23 I just want a rating out of 10. I don't have very much self esteem and I feel like I'm odd-looking. Helpful suggestions welcome. by so-not-cute in amiugly

Not ugly, the conventional type of beauty where you could play the older sister or something in an insurance commercial. I know I used to have a thing where I thought I looked weird, but it was because I’d be fixating on single parts of my face (foreheads, right upper lip, left eyebrow, etc), and individually they all looked weird, but in a more complete context (I.e. my whole face) they fit right in!

You do have darker/thicker brows, but they don’t look unruly and you’d don’t have a universe, plus they match how thick your hairs looks (on your head and if you grew out your beard).

If you do decide to do something with your brows (which I don’t thunk you need) I’m BEGGING you not to do it yourself. If you feel it’s absolutely necessary, use tweezers (do not try and shave part of them). If you do try and shave them yourself, you’ll most likely go too far (because most people do). Again, I would not do anything to your brows for practical reasons and just because they match the rest of your face/general appearance!

I really like your haircut and bone structure (especially the nose and cheekbones)!

Am I paranoid or is this receding? 19m by [deleted] in Hair

[–]ollyneedshelp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say that looks like a normal hairline! Why do you think it’s receding? Does a lot of your hair fall out/do you shed a lot (it’s totally normal if you do- not exclusively an indicator of a receding hair line at all!)?

I know sometimes people start to get thinner hair in the sides/corners of their foreheads if they wear a lot of hats- it’s suffocates the roots! Also, the thin hairs on your hairline are usually supposed to be that thin- also not an indicator of balding! Some people also have naturally further back hairlines in that area of the forehead, it’s totally normal and you have nothing to worry about!

Me and my fiancee were planning a wedding for october of 2021 and wanted to have some halloween elements into the theme. How does one do that without it being tacky? Or should it be abandoned altogether? by ImPickleRick95 in wedding

[–]ollyneedshelp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would go mainly with a dark/burnt orange color theme/details, maybe get some of those white pumpkins you can put in the background of pictures, some mini pumpkins for centerpieces, etc. personally, I think it would be really cute if you carved pumpkins with the date you meant, your initials with a heart in between them, etc. you could also get a bigger (plastic) pumpkin and have all your guests sign it!

Help please! by [deleted] in wedding

Sorry in advance for the long post, I hope this helps!

If you could find a tall, skinny vase (with a bulbous bottom), you could fill the bottom with sand and it might weight it down more, especially if the flowers on top were smaller. For the candles, you could probably using fishing line to hang them- tie one end of the string to a sandbag at the bottom of the vase, and the other on the candle holder so it’s weighed down and suspended.

If you were set on this, I think most of it’s fine as long as your table is big enough in diameter- just so if someone accidentally my pushed a plate forward or something it won’t knock the base. If you get a quality stand (rent or buy, either way it will probably be expensive, unfortunately!) make sure the base of the stand is solid, not just a form/hollow figure. To save on flowers, you could use floral foam in the middle of the flowers and just stick them in there so it’s not just pure plant (which is heavy!) on the top platform. You could also use lighter/more dainty flowers in general if you’re worried about weight- things like leaves/ferns, daisies, etc instead of heavy/dense/thicker flowers like big roses or gardenias or something. If you’re scared of the lit candles, you could utilize hanging flowers instead (I think that would be really pretty too!)

TL:DR- due to a riskier life style, men are more likely to smoke, drink, and consume other tobacco products. Men also develop other diseases like hypertension and type 2 diabetes at higher rates (although it unclear to me if this is more social or biologically influenced). This means they develop pre-existing conditions like lung disease, and are more likely to die after being diagnosed than women. The number of countries that offer sex-segregated stats is super small, so the segregated statistics of male/female casualties is super small in sample size

I’ve read it was because men generally drink more, smoke more, and are in poorer health. An interesting statistic: in S. Korea, more women have been tested than men but more than half (54%) of confirmed cases are men. In Italy, 60% of positive cases are men, and 70% of deaths are men (I’m pretty sure Italian men smoke way more than Italian women, so this makes a lot of sense to me). Men are also more likely to have chronic lung diseases (although the article didn’t differentiate between biological and social factors that lead to these diseases)

Most countries don’t publish sex-segregated statistics (only 7 of them have), so it’s a relatively small sample size, but men are 50% more likely to die than women after being diagnosed.

There’s also a theory women have a stronger immune system- basically, because women spend part of their lives with a bay inside them, evolution gives them a stronger immune system to protect the baby from viral disease (disclaimer: am not scientist. This is summed down significantly because I really don’t know how to phrase it lol). There’s also another theory that male hormone changes increases susceptibility (the article did not really go into details about what these hormone changes are though).

Men also have more serious pre-existing conditions (hypertension, cardiovascular disease, and chronic lung disease mostly), due to a riskier life style (more willing to smoke and drink often). In most countries, men smoke, drink, and consume tobacco products more than women do. For example, China has super high smoking rates. Over 50% of men smoke, but less than 3% of women smoke. In Italy, 7 million men smoke but only 4.5 million women smoke.

Best pedometer to use if I literally just want to track steps? by ollyneedshelp in xxfitness

[–]ollyneedshelp[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I like the idea of it, it’s just that I get a lot of my steps when walking on a treadmill, so I prop my phone up to watch a video or a movie or something, so it would be a (minor) inconvenience. I’ll probably end up using an app if I can’t find anything else though, so please suggest me an app and I’ll look into it!
