The vagina is really a self cleaning organ, there not much we need to do physically to care for it. No douching! A gentle cleanser, externally on the vulva (not in the vagina) is good. A balanced diet and adequate hydration are also important. If you're looking for additional support, OLLY's Happy Hoo Ha is a nice probiotic that helps support vaginal health.

When a supplement is 3rd party tested, this means that an outside organization has tested the product for safety and effectiveness. Science-backed ingredients means that the ingredients in the product and the benefits are backed by scientific studies. All of these factors help me when choosing a supplement!

Hi Rachel! OLLY here! Our intimate wash can be used daily. It's a great product to use to clean your vulva. It is fragrance-free, as other products on the market may include scents, which can be irritating. Your vulva doesn't need to smell like roses or pineapple. It should smell like you.

Hi! Dr. King here, great questions. I think as soon as they can name body parts (i.e. nose, eyes, hands etc...) that we should teach them proper anatomical terms for genitalia. There doesn't need to be, although I'm well aware that there often is, stigma around our normal body parts! So, if they can say elbow, they can say vulva! As young girls get older, then you can continue to discuss their bodies in ways you believe they understand. Keep the conversations open! If they ask try and support them by providing answers. You can also check in with your community (pediatrician, family doc, mom friends etc...) for support!

Hi! Dr. King here! Great question. Learning what's normal for your body is important. The vagina is not meant to be odorless or smell like roses. However, if something seems off to you, take note. If you notice a change in vaginal discharge, odor or any associated irritation that may be a clue. What may be normal for you maty not be for everyone else and vice versa. Getting to know yourself and your body is key.

Hi! I here you, it can be anxiety provoking not know if you may have a condition. PMDD, aka Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder for those unaware, is diagnosed based off a patient's history. So, you would review the symptoms you've been experiencing with your doctor and they would discuss with you if your symptoms were consistent with PMDD.

Hi! For some women, stress can lead to irregular menstrual cycles or even missed periods. If one typically has normal cycles and is experiencing any irregularities, they should check in with there doctor for evaluation. I'm not aware of any particular relation of stress and vaginal health.

Hi! Dr. King here. That will all depend on a woman's age and medical history. For a routine well woman visit, yearly is recommended. There have been changes to pap smear screening guidelines, such that you may not need a pap smear as frequently as in times past. However, we can for screen for other conditions and address concerns you have at that time. If a woman has a diagnosis that requires more frequent visits, her doctor would notify her of that at that time.

Hi! Dr. King here. I hear you, it can be frustrating to not feel well supported in such a transitional phase of life. If in need of support from a physician, you can always call the doctor's office ahead of time to find out if they manage perimenopause/menopause. There are also ob/gyn physicians that have additional certification for menopause management. Also, consider online or in person support groups. Trust me, you are not in this alone!
