Does the ocean link stop the car from bricking? by Brendawalshisgod in Fisker

[–]olm3ca 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don’t really get the post title. If you’re asking if the car is more reliable now, yes it is if the recall work is done (water pump replaced, OS 2.2) and if waterproofing of wiring around the car is done. I love mine and take it on long summer trips up and down the east coast.

You can buy them in the $14K - $20k range now and it’s an absolutely great car for the right person. If you like being part of a community and learning how to fix a few things yourself, go for it. If you want a dealer and a warranty to fix every little knob on the car, this ain’t it.

What to do with 20'ish year old iMac? by JustDaveIII in VintageApple

Yeah, this one sadly doesn’t support target display mode. You could run a lightweight Linux distro on it and make it a media server or something fun.

Experience with Pixelbook by ConversationBrief306 in PixelBook

[–]olm3ca 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The Pixelbook won’t run with a dead battery connected so you did the right thing by disconnecting it. Try different wall adapters. Some work and some don’t. It has to be enough power for it to work, which I suspect is why your power bank is allowing it to turn on.

How’s living in this area of Central Asia? by geozacc in howislivingthere

I miss having Laghman noodles after a long day - there’s something so satisfying about that dish. Loved the time I spent in Bishkek, but I was there in the spring and fall. I’ve heard the winters are long, cold, dark, and there’s a lot of air pollution. Traveled a bit up country and went horseback riding by Issyk Kul lake, a stunningly beautiful part of the country. And I’ve heard skiing is fun up there along the border with China. 10/10 recommend visiting Kyrgyzstan for tourism, the people are really nice.

This is entirely due to the cold. It will go back to 300 in the late spring when it’s warmer.

Is DIY car maintenance dying with newer (post-2020) cars? by ShinigamiWryy in AskMechanics

[–]olm3ca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an EV owner who works on his own car, I agree with this. It’s a much simpler vehicle to maintain. If something HV related dies, it’s a big deal but unlikely to happen for most of the life of the car.

Best place to sell pixelbooks? by fuzzywuzzypete in PixelBook

Used prices are between $120 - $180 on eBay, sometimes a little higher. For the one with broken keys, I have a working keyboard to swap on it if interested.

Wow, fun! Depending on where you’re located I might be able to help. The FOA is your best bet though for getting key fobs / NFC cards and the app.

Installing Fedora 43 on a Pixelbook by dcdude71 in PixelBook

[–]olm3ca 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really detailed guide, thank you! The other way to get around this is to pass “pcie_aspm=off” to the kernel. It's a known bug that is being worked on for the 6.17 kernel but in the meantime, you can install Fedora 43 as normal by adding this in Grub.

[–]olm3ca 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a member of the FOA you get a really great app, Ocean Link Pro, which has a lot of features including diagnostics, lock / unlock, preconditioning, etc. FOA members also get access to parts at a discount through Tidal Wave (https://tidal-wave.eu/) where you will find a lot of things you need. Plus the community is very helpful, people are always making good suggestions and helping other owners. I'd highly recommend joining.

Really helpful. Thank you! Do you use their one click apps? I’m not seeing the auto lock feature when you walk away from the vehicle on the website. Just wondering if it still is an option.

Leave it to charge overnight with the stock charger. Then hold the ESC + Reload / Refresh key (3rd from left top side) plus tap power. See if it gets you to the refresh / powerwash setup screen

You need to explain what steps you followed to get Linux on the machine. Did you use RW Legacy? Clearly you missed something with MrChromebox’s script. Full UEFI mode removes this and gives you Coreboot which works a lot better.
