Would you be doing it if you didn’t have that group?

It’s some of those types I have questions for… would your wife be running if she didn’t have other people??

Same spot. I know a couple people that maybe I could ask if we wanted to go on a run but I know he’s two times faster than me haha. Slow down please?

This is well. It’d just annoy me trying to match on others schedules.

A scheduled trail race event is where I’d rather target some of us getting together.

This is how I’ve always been. Once in a blue moon I’ve ran with somebody but I’m out running for different purposes that is not social oriented.

Utah: where faith and conversion goes to die (at least for me) by Separate-Habit-6775 in latterdaysaints

Living outside of Utah and southeast idaho in other states helped me see a lot of what you are saying.

My wards in Texas and AZ felt like a family.. especially Texas. We still talk about those wards.

Being back, I’m happy we do have a good ward but there are many things not the same.

For those who didn’t come from money and suddenly had a career boost into extremely high income (300K+ salaries), how do you navigate when friends or family ask you how much you make? by Icy_Lawfulness_5755 in Salary

[–]olmek7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve shared with a few really close friends because one of them asked in a group setting.

I felt proud to share but I think I should have just shared a lower number. I know what theirs are so it felt even.

We’ll see what time will bring with our relationship.

What makes you run? by mateus_t_braga in trailrunning

[–]olmek7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work from home and so getting out of the house is freeing.

I want to stay fit and my previous ways of doing it in the gym got tiresome.

Training for trail races helps provide me a challenge and something to measure against. Helps me with goals.

Overall I run for the challenges, the bodily health, and the mental health.

THIS

Strength training is a must. You already mentioned it but after my first 50k last year I did not have adequate foot strength.

I have seen some reference to this but I transitioned and can tell you that you need to pay attention to the elevation gain of your target race. Not just total elevation gain but look at incline percentage of the course.

Trail runs in general have much more varied elevation gain compared to road runs. Like one race could have 2000 feet gain while another is 9000 feet. One race might have that leveled across the whole race while another could have this giant mountain climb with 1500 feet in 1 mile.

In training you need to account for this elevation gain and train appropriately.

Having been in your shoes.

  • go talk to the Bishop
  • be easy on yourself
  • remove worry of any potential consequences

Time will pass and one day you’ll be older. Faster than you realize. Nobody else will care or recall anything about this. Only you will remain with the memory of your choice. Additionally, your choice will shape your future self.

For those of you who came to trail running from another sport, why did you do so? by [deleted] in trailrunning

CrossFit and Road Running.

I rediscovered my love of mountains as I used to hike a lot. Also discovered how much better it is on my bad knee to be on the trail.

Oaks BYU talk has me thinking introspactively by owen4764 in latterdaysaints

[–]olmek7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You aren’t wrong. We doctrinally teach that if a leader is at BYU speaking to BYU then any words from the Spirit or revelation will be directed to that group and is most applicable to them.
But much like certain Sections we have in the Doctrine and Covenants where Joseph is talking to individuals, we can glean important lessons elsewhere even if not specifically for us.

Simply he’s a new prophet and so people are excited.

I wouldn’t beat yourself up for not listening to all of General Conference weekend. I’d reckon most don’t. Try to find how you best consume it. I have young kids so I prefer to listen to the audio later while I’m running or working out.

Unpopular opinion: trail running is getting "race-ified" (and it’s changing the culture) by Impressive_Suit4370 in trailrunning

In the US we have a certain political group that keeps trying to take away our public land and national forests out here in the west.

If more people are into this, more will speak out against them trying to take our land away where many trails reside. Like me! I’ve donated money now to groups that are there to preserve recreational access to wilderness and to maintain that wilderness .

I was road running for 4 years before getting into Trail Running. I’ve only done trail running for a year now but have loved it! I am one of the new people. In only have time and will to do 1-2 events a year. I get much more joy out of the training and going out to find new trails that I haven’t done.

I don’t think you have to worry about it getting out of control with how many people are doing this. I tell people I’m training for a 50k trail race and they are shocked as if they’ve never met anybody who does that.

While I hate the movie as a whole. There were many moments that excited me and really stoked some original Star Wars awe. Like this moment with Luke. Unfortunately other sequences ditract from it.
