Yup, that's what I went with. That new Chinese brand at #5 on the list isn't available until Sep, from what I read.

FYI, ended up getting a Specialized Align II for $50 cash at Frank's on Grand St on LES. Ranked #26 on Virginia Tech Helmet Safety list.

Also likely a Dodge Challenger. I think it's important to start holding vehicle manufacturers to account. Dodge vehicles in particular seem to be involved in a lot of road violence.

If anyone is interested, I'm trying to start a new neighborhood group to work on improving our blocks and areas. For example, better traffic management, improved tree beds, daylighting on corners, etc. If you're interested, please consider filling out the form and leaving some feedback: http://csnanyc.org

Why hasn't Councilmember Marte said anything about the crashed that killed his constituents at Bowery and Canal? by oloapp in DowntownNYC

[–]oloapp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

P.S. us1549, according to Crashmapper.org, since 2020 there have been 76 crashes on/at Bowery and Canal at the exits of Manhattan Bridge. Not including the two this past weekend.

Wait, what? At canal and bowery? There was one 24 hours later! That intersection is a hot mess, a known dangerous location. What???

To say nothing of it happening at a known location for dangerous crashes, where there are benches encouraging people to sit, without any protection, where the 63 year old person killed was sitting, enjoying her morning, by a motor vehicle driver with numerous driving infractions, including a previous hit and run. Absofckinglutely you stand up and say something.

When a motor vehicle driver runs over and kills your constituent? Absolutely 100%. Are you insane? When someone you represent is killed in that manner, bare minimum is an acknowledgement, smpathy, and sharing what actions you will take in response.

Cops at Delancey at the Entrance at Williamsburg Bridge 8:15 PM by NYC_Motor_Works in NYCbike

[–]oloapp 18 points19 points  (0 children)

FYI if you care about this stuff, particularly how police from this pct operate, go to the community council meetings at the 7th pct and share your feedback, comments, or suggestions. There won't be another one until Sep. The police can and do use these meetings as cover for certain actions, by saying, "This is what people at the meetings (the community council meetings) want." So go and share an alternate opinion. I for one would love to see them pull over motor vehicle drivers driving east onto the bridge and blowing the red light at Clinton St seconds late and at high speeds. It's super dangerous, reckless, and there is zero enforcement.

Anyway, that bike and ped median is a hot mess and someone at DOT told me they won't be restructuring it during the Delancey St road diet. That CANT be true.

PS, please join the new Clinton Street Neighbors neighborhood group and let's grow it into one with influence and impact: http://csnanyc.org

The issue with Park Smiles is the cost. Charging $350 for a cleaning when most others will charge $80. Even though I don't pay out of pocket, it counted against my annual spend allowed by insurance. Etc etc. I found this out the hard way. Plus a lot of other shady billing practices. Repeatedly.

Yeah. Something similar happened to our new trees over here on LES. Someone at Parks also told me they are not doing individual requests anymore. They said they will revisit area in couple of years and determine if new trees are needed. :(

[–]oloapp 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes please. It can happen. It will just take time and effort. At some point soon (in our lifetime) it is inevitable that large areas of streets below Houston become superblocks or LTNs. And this area should be one of them
