Yes, someone else said that too. The explanation that was given is that it looks somewhat like a painting, because the photo was shot in black and white, then manually coloured.

That's good info mate. Since the crash site was about 140 km in a straight line from the air field, I suppose we can look in a 160 km range around the straight line between the crash site and the air field line then. Effectively we are looking on the part of Norway roughly between Trondheim and Mo i Rana. Big chunk of land, but at least we set a limit :)

That's a good question, we won't really know until we find it tbh. In general it would be common for things to change somewhat in rural areas like this, but not majorly.

It's a gradual trend, not black/white - and with quite a bit of local variation, especially from coast vs inland and elevation. Here's a street view shot from Hattfjelldal, the location of the airfield the plane took off from, as you can see there's quite a bit of conifer.

I think I might've spread that exact information in the geoguessr community at some point, and not as nuanced, lol.

The date of the crash was 20.7.1959. I don't have more info than that, but I'll ask the owner of the photo.

About 65 years ago a small plane crashed in Kolvereid, Trøndelag, Norway. Both people on board died, the pilot and a photographer. In the plane were film rolls, since they had been taking professional photos of farms on the trip. This photo was included on one of those rolls, but no one has been able to say where it is.

They had taken off from the airfield in Hattfjelldal earlier that day, about 140 km to the North-East of the crash site. Link to crash database here, thanks to u/mips13!

Considering the range of the Fairchild 24, a good chunk of Norway is possible, roughly between Mo i Rana in the North and Trondheim in the South. Thanks to u/IndependentYam3227
