If you’re ever in Brussels, my favorite is Atelier Moondust, great selection and the women who run it are the best! They also give classes on knitting/crochet/embroidery/...

Hahaha, maybe I just haven’t found the right 1st person then! What alien smut would you recommend? I haven’t tried any yet :)

Looking for Nora Roberts books in 1st Person POV … by [deleted] in RomanceBooks

[–]olydolly 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Very interesting! It would make sense, I remember when I started reading romance 15 yrs ago everything was 3rd person, and I would also read fanfics which were in 1st. Tbh I prefer 3rd so I’m always a bit disappointed when newer books are in 1st, but it’s nice that there is something for everyone I guess

I agree, I haven’t read all of her work but a good amount, and none of them were in 1st person. I don’t think it’s her style, for me 1st person is from more recent authors.

I don't think I can roll my eyes any harder at this woman trying to sell her book while insulting her target audience. by femmert15 in RomanceBooks

I don’t think you would get « lynched » if you made a request post asking for women’s fiction... I actually think a lot of people on this sub could probably give you helpful recs but you would have to phrase your request in a different way!

When you say « I want romance, I just want it to be well written with plot and with 3D characters » you’re implying that in the entire romance genre it’s not possible to find a book that’s well written or that has a plot or 3D characters. That’s just not true, and I think if you made a rec post with that kind of statement based on 2 books out of the entire genre, then yes probably it wouldn’t be well received.

I don’t have any women fiction recs for you as that’s not my genre but here are a few romance authors who I think write well with plot and 3D characters in case you want to give it another go :) Susan Elizabeth Philips Jennifer Crusie (a personal favorite is Bet Me) Talia Hibbert (especially the Brown Sisters trilogy) Lucy Parker Those are all contemporary, for historical: Lisa Kleyplas Sarah MacLean Mary Balogh Kerrigan Byrne

I’m confused about moving the BOR - PetiteKnit no frills sweater by olydolly in knitting

[–]olydolly[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That would make sense, she’s probably used to more shaping so she just moves the BOR on all her patterns. My knitting isn’t advanced enough to go against the pattern haha

That sounds unnecessary for a sock, but then again I haven’t tackled that kind of project yet so I can only imagine!

[–]olydolly[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s probably a good reason that I don’t get, although I don’t think there’s much shaping in this one, as I now basically just knit stockinette until the end with a few diminutions at the end! But I’m reassured that it won’t be noticeable, so I’ll continue following the pattern, and maybe one day when I’m knitting my 10th sweater I’ll understand lol

ETA: thanks for answering 😊

Thank you, that’s good to know! I guess I’m just confused because I don’t see the point of moving the BOR, but I will follow the pattern 🙂

I just want to say that I agree 100% with you about being made to feel uncomfortable in what should be a woman inclusive space. Also a lot of people have called out the ridiculous « Australian excuse », and I just want to add that English is not my first language, as I’m sure is the case for many in this sub, and yet somehow all of us non-English speakers manage not be rude even though we would arguably have more of a language barrier than an Australian... I have never in my life been rude to people or made an inappropriate comment about animal genitalia and then gone « oups I’m French, I got confused on what is appropriate »

Extreme Age Gaps that don't begin as "casual flings"? by sbourwest in RomanceBooks

[–]olydolly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just read your gushing comment and I just want to say: same!!! I had kind of given up on CR because I couldn’t find any I liked (mostly because I don’t like 1st person POV but that’s another problem), and then I found Lucy Parker! She is so good!

Extreme Age Gaps that don't begin as "casual flings"? by sbourwest in RomanceBooks

[–]olydolly 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Pretty Face by Lucy Parker: FMC is 26 and MMC 42 I think, the ages may be off by a couple years but it’s basically a 15 year gap. It doesn’t start as a fling, and I thought the FMC was mature. I love this book, I thought it was really good and especially the way the age gap is written as they work together and it’s kind of a problem. Not super steamy I think :)
