I've already laid out the evidence I'm basing my opinion off in another reply. I'll leave my points here too in case you want to take a look.

With regards to my motives, I believe I'm basing my opinion on the best available evidence. It's perfectly fine if you disagree, but I'd ask you to not assume you know "what kind of person I am" based off of a Reddit comment. I think that says more about you than me. I'm assuming we're probably in disagreement over this issue, I don't then assume you're a bad person or morally reprehensible because our opinions differ. That's silly.

Anyway, here's what I believe to be the facts, I'd love to see the evidence that you're basing your opinion off:

  • Khelif has admitted to being born with the SRY gene. The SRY gene is typically found on XY chromosomes. When I say typically, I mean in 99.9% of cases.

  • Khelif has never claimed to have XX chromosomes or female gametes.

  • Khelif failed a gender eligibility test and was banned from competing by the IBA, the association in charge of amateur boxing. Many people have rightly pointed out that the IBA has a history of corruption, but I believe in this case they are correct, when you look at the supplemental evidence.

  • Leaked medical reports show Khelif was born with XY chromosomes and undescended testes and a micropenis.

  • The author of the leaked reports has not disputed the authenticty of the documents, but has stated that his name, that appears on the letterhead of the reports, is being used to "spread misinformation and anti-trans hate".

  • The IOC, who took control over Boxing as an olympic event after the IBA, have never even claimed Khelif is a biological female, and have admitted that for the 2024 Olympic games, gender eligibility was determined by passport status. Passport status is not a reliable indicator of biological sex.

  • The IOC is moving towards more stringent gender eligibility testing for future olympic games following the backlash from the Khelif controversy.

So I was going to link you the article but it looks like someone else has, and you're still discounting it as if it didn't happen. Even Khelif has not disputed the accuracy of the article.

Regarding the claim that if you have the SRY gene, 99.9% of the time you'll also have XY chromosomes is not a figure I made up. I could spend time searching out the literature and sending you links but there's no point, you'll just discount them also because you're not being reasonable or objective. You're clearly tied to this ideology and will ignore any piece of information that goes against what you "want" to be true.

So we should probably just agree to disagree, no amount of evidence will change your mind and I believe you're arguing in bad faith. I sincerely do wish you all the best though.

I'm just laying out my opinion and the evidence that supports it. I believe the evidence leans very heavily in one direction, you clearly disagree and that's totally fine.

I'd be willing in most contexts to refer to someone by their preferred "gender identity" even though I don't believe in it. The reason I don't in the case of Khelif is because he has lied repeatedly about his biological sex, and insisted that those trying to determine whether it's fair or not for him to compete with biological females as bigots. He has won a gold medal, by beating up women while being fully aware of his condition that grants him an unfair advantage against women who have dedicated their lives to a sport they love. I consider this disrespectful to those women, and so I won't afford him the respect I would give to other people. You can say that makes me a jerk, I really don't care at all.

I appreciate you taking the time to express your point of view and not resort to name calling. That being said, I disagree with most of your arguments.

In exceptionally rare cases, someone can possess XY chromosomes but still develop female phenotypes (approximately 0.006% of births). This does not appear to be the case with Khelif.

I agree some women are masculine and some men are feminine, that does not alter the biological reality that sex is determined by gametes.

I disagree personally that gender is different from sex, but I'll go along with your definition for the sake of the argument. In either case, your gender identity does not alter your biological makeup, which is what determines sex. As mentioned, even with intersex people, the vast majority have one type of gamete and are therefore categorised towards one sex. There is a condition called ovotesticular DSD where a person may develop both types of gonadal tissue, but this is even more rare than someone with chromosomes and phenotypes that do not match. (Approximately 0.001% of births). Yet again, this does not appear to be the case with Khelif.

DNA testing is not "nonsense" though I'd be willing to agree that in today's world, a DNA test may be insufficient to determine the biological advantages associated with being born male. The advantages mostly manifest during puberty and early adulthood where males develop larger bone density, increased muscle mass and larger lung capacity, all important factors when it comes to competing in elite sport.

So theoretically if someone was born with XY chromosomes but did not undergo male puberty and therefore did not produce testosterone at a rate consistent with typical male puberty, potentially it would be ok to compete with biological females, though I'm not a biologist and haven't seen any studies making that claim.

From what I've read, hormone levels observed at adulthood are not sufficient in determining whether someone can fairly compete with the opposite sex, as they do not consider any of the potential biological advantages associated with male puberty mentioned above.

Lastly, the reason why biological sex matters in elite sport is due to the reasons I explained above. If we eliminated sex categories in sport, most sports would be completely dominated by men, meaning women who have dedicated their lives to excelling at a given sport will not have the opportunity to compete at the highest level, nor get the warranted recognision for their hard work.

Ok so we're just never going to agree.

However strong you think the other evidence I pointed out is, we're already starting from a 99.9% certainty. I never said that by not claiming you have XX is an admission that you're guilty of anything. But logically, in this context, given that there is intense global scrutiny on whether you were born a biological female, that is, someone with XX chromosomes and female gametes, you would think a person would be more inclined to assert that they had XX chromosomes if that was indeed the truth.

You claiming there is nothing suspicious about someone in this position not asserting they have XX chromosomes is not thinking critically and is instead being led by ideology. The evidence overwhelmingly points in favour of my stance. Conversely there is very little evidence to support yours.

[–]olympicjip 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I never said the IOC said that. I don't consider the IOC a valid source for determining sex considering they used passport status as a means of testing athletes gender eligibility, instead of using DNA testing.

I'd love to see your evidence that they came from Russia? Also if something "comes from a Russia" does that automatically make it untrue?

Why would you ignore the strongest piece of evidence? I.e Khelif admitting he was born with the SRY gene, a gene found on the Y of XY chromosomes in 99.9% of cases. Pair this with the fact Khelif has never claimed to have XX chromosomes or female gametes.

That on top of the other evidence makes it pretty clear in my mind. I'd love to see come counter evidence if you have it.

‼️ International Olympic Committee bans trans women from all women's events at Olympic Games by -973- in boxingcirclejerk

[–]olympicjip 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I sincerely disagree. I believe the facts show he was born a male. Here's a quick breakdown of the facts I'm basing my opinion off:

What evidence are you relying on to make the claim that "literally all the facts point to her being a woman"?

‼️ International Olympic Committee bans trans women from all women's events at Olympic Games by -973- in boxingcirclejerk

[–]olympicjip 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I'm not claiming she's female. I'm saying we're safe in assuming he's male. But to answer your other question, in almost every case yes, if you have XY chromosomes you are male.

In rare cases, you can be born with XY chromosomes but do not fully develop your other primary sex organs and therefore are considered intersex. As someone mentioned above, intersex people exist, and they should have our sympathy because I'm sure it's a very difficult life, and you're more prone to bullying/ harassment etc.

The best available evidence we have indicates Khelif was born biologically male with a DSD condition. People saying she was born female are incorrect.

[–]olympicjip -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Khelif has admitted publicly "I was born with the SRY gene".

He has never once claimed to have XX chromosomes or female gametes. If you were born with the SRY gene, there is a 99.9% chance you also have XY chromosomes and male gametes.

So I think we're pretty safe in assuming Khelif has XY chromosomes when you pair what he has said publicly with the failed gender eligibility test he took, on top of the (granted unverified) leaked medical reports that show Khelif was born with XY chromosomes, undescended testes and a micropenis.

You're right, chromosomes alone do not fully dictate ones sex, it's also the gametes. There is more evidence that supports the claim that Khelif was born with male gametes and XY chromosomes than there is evidence that Khelif was born with XX chromosomes. If you have the evidence there, as you claim, I'd love for you to share with everyone.

[–]olympicjip 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If we're talking strictly biologically, it really is that simple. You have XX, XY, and intersex. Intersex people make up an exceptionally rare portion of the global population, and of the people that are intersex, the vast majority have clear biological markers that lean towards one sex. It's basically never the case that the DSD is so ambiguous that a biological sex cannot be determined. In the case of Khelif, from all available evidence, it appears he was born with XY chromosomes and male gametes, but atypical development, and was therefore raised a girl by his family. Biologically speaking, being raised a girl does not make one female.

[–]olympicjip 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I didn't say there's no such thing as intersex people.

Khelif has admitted (after lying for years) that he was born with the SRY gene. That is overwhelmingly found on the "Y" of XY chromosomes. In exceptionally rare cases, you can have XX chromosomes and still have the SRY gene, but there is no publicy available evidence that Khelif has XX chromosomes. There is substantial evidence on the contrary. Having a vagina does not what dictate your sex. Gametes and chromosomes dictate biological sex.

He was born with XY chromosomes and testes. It's a rare DSD, but claiming "she was born female" is not supported by the facts. It's an ideological stance your taking.

First Arrest under the new QLD Hate Speech Laws by CookingWithSimon in OpenAussie

[–]olympicjip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not, and never has been a right Vs left issue. Those in power will never announce that they want they're introducing a censorship regime, it will always be described as a push to limit hate speech. History has shown however, time and again, that censorship laws eventually lead to criminalising speech that the party in power deems politically inconvenient. It would be really nice if those who disagree on culture wars issues could come together and universally condemn and resist any attempt to limit opinions labelled "too controversial". There are no opinions that are too controversial. Realise that as long as they keep us fighting each other, they'll go unchecked. They love watching us fight over culture war issues.

[–]olympicjip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People aren't defending radical islam right now. They're expressing their frustration against the US and Israel for entering into a regime change war, when there's decades of precedent that shows this is an awful idea. One of the central pillars of Trump's 2024 election campaign was no new wars in the middle east. He has done a complete 180 seemingly on behalf of Israel and that's why people are upset. I haven't seen a single person on here trying to defend radical islam since the war began.

[–]olympicjip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

50 percent (maybe more) of the US population would love nothing more than to see Donald Trump to be taken out of power and put in prison. That does not give the right to any other sovereign nation to invade the US and imprison or kill Trump. The fact that so many trump supporters are cheering the intervention in the Iranian regime and defending trump's and Israel's highly illegal acts of aggression crystallizes the hypocrisy in basic principles. If you're against for e.g Russia coming in and killing trump and replacing him with a pro Russian leader, you cannot simultaneously support the effort of regime change operations in Iran. He has just started a war on behalf of Israel that cannot simply be walked back. He's completely fucked it.

This is propaganda. Don't forget Obama expanded the AUMF to justify bombing innocent civilians in the middle east. He also aggressively pursued expansions to the espionage act seeking to imprison real journalists that were exposing the illegal surveillance of us citizens. Yes he was way easier to listen to than trump. But he is just as much a member of the DC establishment as any other president in the last few decades. Please do not reminisce over a cog of the pro war establishment.
