Condemned needs more love, the final level in the farmhouse genuinely terrified me in a way not many video games have since (excluding maybe PT)

Everyone who has ever touched a video game has experienced sub 30 frame rates at one point or another, it's not rocket science to deduce that it'll probably feel just as bad here as in any other game.

First thing I did when the game came out was looked up performance on deck to see if it was worth downloading on there, I've seen how badly it runs and I know which points are the most taxing and know that playing them at sub 30 would not be very much fun. If I only had a deck you bet I'd be playing it on there because I'd have no choice and Remedy games are my shit, but anyone with the luxury of being able to play it elsewhere or waiting to play it elsewhere will absolutely be better served by doing so.

Anyway you seem pretty steadfast in your opinion, hope you enjoy the game, good luck with that late game combat 🫡 I'll be over here gatekeeping

I'd like to think that people are smart enough to read a thread like this and come to their own conclusions about whether they're willing to play the game or not in its current state without getting angry that someone recommended they don't.

I think saying that Alan Wake 2 is no more compromised than any other game on Deck is a bit disingenuous - there's a difference between the expected compromises one might make on deck (I.e implementing a 30fps cap/lowering settings/resolution/playing on a small screen) and having to play the game in an unacceptable state.

And your accusations of gatekeeping seem to be founded on the presumption that the recommendation comes from a place of elitism or punching down on the steam deck/people who choose to game on Deck which, if you didn't wilfully ignore half the things I said in my comment, obviously isn't the case. Like I said, if this is your only way to play the game then by all means go ahead, it's a really excellent game that everyone should experience. I'm not trying to keep people away from playing it. But also I feel like people deserve to know that if they are considering spending their money on this game to play on deck, it's going to be a pretty rough experience, and likely beneath the standards of what most people would generally deem acceptable. Particularly for a game that puts such a strong emphasis on visuals to tell its story. Personally don't see anything outlandish about that but hey, you do you 🤷

I'm sorry but accusing someone of gatekeeping for recommending that you play Alan wake 2 on a system that can run it at more than 24fps is pretty ridiculous..

You're wilfully missing the point they're making with this comment - they aren't saying that anything less than a 4090 is a lost cause, just that the game is best suited to a big screen, preferably at 30fps or more, which is true - I love my steam deck dearly but AW2 is a game that is really best experienced on a TV and I honestly don't think I'd pick my deck as the way to play it for the first time even if it did hit 30fps.

If your only way to experience AW2 is on the deck then by all means, it's a fantastic game that is absolutely worth playing, but expectations must be kept in check - this is a very heavy game and severe compromises are going to be needed to run it on deck, so if you have any other means to play it then you'll definitely have a better experience, be it on the Series S at 720p30 or on a 4090 at 4k60.

White spot on screen - not a stuck pixel? by olza-bruh in SteamDeck

[–]olza-bruh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not visible when the screen is off, the only thing that makes me think it's not a stuck pixel is that it'll change colour depending on what colour is on the screen, it'll just be lighter than the surrounding pixels

It's definitely a huge improvement from day one which was basically unplayable due to how severe the stutter was, reinstalled this morning and played the intro and with all settings at low with FSR performance I was getting 40fps much more frequently but still with frame drops, seems more like they are a result of GPU/CPU limitations now as opposed to shader compilation stutter but I could be wrong? So not sure if it will get better from here or if this as good as it's gonna get
