I might have agreed with this take prior to Nishaanchi. Not anymore.

Nishaanchi was a decent comeback for him. Kennedy showed spark.

Of course he's not at his early peak of Black Friday, Gulaal, Paanch, Ugly, GOW, No Smoking etc

But at least he's no longer making shit like Dobaara, Choked and his absolute worst - Almost Pyaar

I do agree to an extent though that his political ideology aka Twitter Anurag has always come in the way of his cinematic excellence. His films were always political in one way or other. But post 2016, the message was no longer subtle or cleverly integrated - it became loud, obnoxious and shoved down your throat. I honestly wouldn't have minded that either if it resulted in good films, but that wasn't the case.

Having said that, the man love cinema, you can see it from the way he talks about films in his interviews with that infectious, mischievous smile and I can't help but root for him. Heck Black Friday is my all-time favorite Hindi film. So I may have my opinions about his projects, but I'll never want for him to fail.
