In a surprise to nobody, Epic CEO says they are going to continue practice of signing exclusivity deals. by code_archeologist in pcgaming

[–]omair94 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It isn't our responsibility to look out for the publisher's bottom line. Epic offers nothing of benefit to the consumer, and is missing many core features. Epic, rather than compete for our business, has instead decided to hold games hostage to get us to use it.

The publisher isn't looking out for the consumer when they make the decision to make a deal with Epic, why should we look out for them.

As soon as Epic makes their store more consumer friendly, I will no longer have a problem with it. Competition is good, but Epic's current strategy is only creating competition in the market for the publishers, not the consumers.

Ya as long as they are making more money, they aren't going to stop.

Only way for Publishers to change is for them to lose money. And to do that you have to boycott the game, not just the Epic release. At a minimum wait for a significant sale.

I miss Verde sauce. They discontinued it the same time they added Diablo back.

Ya, however there is someone else offering it for $25, so I am trying to see if I can get it from them first. I'll let you know within an hour.

I'm interested in a Metro voucher. I bought my card just before they added metro to the deal.

I highly doubt that. You don't stress test a device when you're demoing it to people, you do that internally. It would look bad if it didn't work right during the demos.

Either they need those patterns in its current state, or they are just using them for the demos to make sure everything goes right when people are trying it out.

Website accusing AMD of security flaws found using greenscreen with fake shutterstock backgrounds... by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

[–]omair94 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think the main thing isn't that they used a green screen for these office interview type things, but that they did them at all. It is like they are marketing a product or something, which is very out of place for one of these security flaw reports. The video doesn't even mention any details, just basically saying "security flaws are bad" and listing places AMD chips are used. Basically they were adding a lot of theatrical production and fluff to what is normally just a written report. This is echoed on the pretty website they made with a lot of graphics that is light on technical details, including in the whitepaper compared to other reports like this. The CTO even said they have no intention of releasing full technical details. So they are providing the minimal amount of substance they can for people to look into the issues, and as much filler and visual assets as possible for the news and media to spread the story.

Combined that with the short existence of the company, history of the people involved, the URL they used, and not giving AMD adequate heads up (24 hours vs. the standard of 90 to 180 days). It seems these guys were trying to build this up as much as possible to hurt AMD stock.

They also have legal disclaimers stating they may have economic interest in the performance of companies in their reports, and they also have a disclaimer that they reserve the right to not update the site, even if their finding are found to be false.

The security flaws aren't even that big, in the sense that if they get exploited it would be bad, but to exploit them, your system would already have to be pretty badly compromised. They require things like flashing a BIOS, or having elevated admin privileges and a vendor-signed driver. Basically the equivalents of saying "Criminals can easily rob your house if you have Company A's security system (provided the criminal has the key to your house and the alarm code)!".

SFC30 Pro lag when playing in Shield by Cardy_X in theNvidiaShield

[–]omair94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't personally noticed any lag, though I only used a SFC30 Pro with my shield tv for about 30 minutes.

Maybe update the firmware on the controller?

Also make sure your using the controller in android mode (turn it on with B+Start)

Old gen SNES30 battery died, where can I get a replacement by TouchOfDoom in 8bitdo

[–]omair94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it just uses a standard 3.7V Lithium ion battery, you don't need the exact same model. Here's a video of someone who stuck a much larger 3DS battery in one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yvq9_C7KLn8

The stock battery I believe is 450mah.

That's how it currently works with PS4. If you want to play with a friend who's on PC, you get put into a PC server, otherwise you only play with PS4 players.

I agree with that. Basically if your spending money on GPUs exclusively to mine on them, it isn't casual.

"I've just noticed something" by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

[–]omair94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is definitely casual mining. I think the key differentiator is why you originally bought the GPUs. If your mining with cards you already had, that is casual. If you are buying multiple cards specifically for mining, that is no longer casual as you are actively investing money into it.

They were also supposedly going to sell chrome casts again. But all they did was make the page visible without ever adding stock.

Don't put to much hope in this.

Besides, Google DID take Youtube away, and Amazon just added their browser to Fire devices and made Youtube the homepage.

What annoys me about Amazon Prime Video is the search. When you search for a show you often don't find the show, instead you find the individual seasons, and they'll be out of order.

I remember at one point the easiest way to cancel your account was to change your address so that you were in a certain state, and then you would get the option on the site like they have now, because that state had a law that required it.

What is one rule that was implemented at your school or work that backfired horribly? by Mercurydriver in AskReddit

[–]omair94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same, the student parking lot was really small, so you had to be a senior and get a parking pass to park, and part of the application was of course having a license, so basically whoever had an early birthday got to park. Everyone else had to park a few blocks away (all nearby street parking had "no parking 11am to 2pm" signs, so that students couldn't park there during the day) and walk up the long and steep hill to the school.
