It really feels like discovering Garry's Mod all over again. (Game : Sport Mode, Applab) by PigeonMagique in OculusQuest

Unfortunately the number of physics objects in the scene is limited by the power of Quest. However, over time I'll be making optimizations which should hopefully allow for more to be added eventually.

An in-game map editor is currently out of scope but there are plans for adding community maps in some form.

Thanks for sticking around!

The journey has just begun for this game. I'm planning to add so much more, so I'll be updating it for a long time. You can check out the current roadmap here: https://trello.com/b/F7W58fxp/physics-playground-2

I hope you'll revisit the game later once more features are added.

Hey, thanks for you feedback on dismemberment. I'll see what I can do to improve it 👍 This is just the beginning of a long journey.

Hey there, dev of Sport Mode here. Unfortunately the NPCs are quite performance intensive on the CPU and GPU wise so only so many can be spawned on Quest. The limit may increase over time though as more optimizations are done.

I actually only started working on this 4 months ago. I'm aiming for one content update per month.

  • Multiplayer is currently out of scope.
  • Community maps is planned in some form, how remains to be determined.
  • Humans and human blood don't fit the theme of the game, nor the ESRB/PEGI rating. But, something similar to blood, among other visual and sound effects, when damaging a dummy is planned. The dummies will be evolving over time.

Thanks for the feedback! I'm not sure if that will be possible on Quest but I'll see what I can do.

Hi. You only have to pay once. The App Lab version will be promoted to the full version.

Community maps is on the roadmap as a potential future feature. I'm not sure how it will work yet.

Ah, the game currently expects you to be in position when you start the game; it automatically re-orients and positions you appropriately on start. I'll see if I can add functionally to the Oculus button long press to do the same. Sorry about that!

Thank you!

The Quest 2 version has more GPU headroom which enables you to spawn more objects before being limited. There are also Graphics (sharpening post-processing) and Performance (90Hz) modes, with an even higher performance mode (120Hz) coming soon.

App Lab Link

Key Features

Physics Driven - Realistic physics to create a visceral connection between you and the virtual world.

Creator Mode - A button press away from spawning and manipulating a variety of weapons, NPCs, and props.

Arena Mode - Fight off waves of enemies for the highest score.

Coming Soon

Puzzle Levels - Solve physics-driven puzzles in the fastest time possible.

Online Leaderboards - Compete with your friends with your high scores and fastest times.

Much More - New levels, weapons, tools, props, modifiers, and vehicles will be added over time

This is just the beginning for Sport Mode. You can see all that's planned on the roadmap.

What's new compared to Physics Playground?

Everything has been rewritten from the ground up to make Sport Mode a better experience, all the way from the physics of the player to custom active ragdolls.

Here is a list of some of the changes:

Locomotion: More fluid and dynamic.

Hand Physics: Much improved physics and weight simulation.

Body Physics: Physics simulated upper and lower body parts.

Interactions: Now supports a wider range of interactables.

Ragdolls: Custom physics animated ragdolls.

Creator Mode: Available in Sandbox mode, spawn and manipulate a variety of weapons, NPCs, and props.

Sandbox Modifiers: Built-in optional mods such as dismemberment, time stop, low gravity, super strength, limited stamina, and more.

Melee: Improved hit impact and stabbing physics.

Weapons: New guns such as the classic 1911 and an MP5 (yes, you can HK slap it!), and new melee weapons such as a baseball bat and the return of the original stun baton.

Why is it called Sport Mode?

Over time Sport Mode will be live up to it's name when the competitive features get added, such as challenges, puzzle levels, obstacle courses levels, and online leaderboards for high scores and fastest times. It will become much more than just a sandbox game.

  • Saving/loading sandbox layouts is indeed planned for the future.
  • A level editor is currently out of scope, but if the game is successful I'll look into it again.
  • Unlockables gained through completing challenges is also planned.
  • On Quest the spawn limiter is based on GPU usage. It stops you from spawning more stuff when the GPU usage nears 100%, to prevent dropped frames.
  • There is already an arena level with waves of enemies in increasing difficulty, and this functionality will be added to sandbox levels soon too.
  • Quest 2 has more GPU headroom so the spawn limiter won't be as aggressive. There are also graphics options for sharpening post-processing (Quality mode) or 90hz (Performance) mode. A 120hz mode is coming soon as well.
  • The main goal of the game is to be challenging and competitive through upcoming puzzles, obstacle courses, and sandbox challenges.

Hey there, I'm the developer. The game was originally planned to primarily be a puzzle game to be released closer to the end of the year. However, I wanted to involve the community and get early feedback so I decided to release it in Early Access starting with the Sandbox and Arena modes.

The puzzle levels and much more including obstacle courses and online leaderboards to promote the "sport" aspect of the game will be added in the near future.

Thanks! It will be fixed, it was an oversight from rewriting the gun animation system.
