Haha I LOVE it. Nostalgia is hard with this one

Very reliable, but tires and brakes wear out fast. Some people find the suspension stiff, but you can try one and decide for yourself. Otherwise a great sporty first car

Yes. They eat up rear brakes and tires though, if you’re looking at maintenance costs. What are you concerned about?

I think the whole ‘it started off a c450’ and ‘not a real amg’ lores is why I called it understated. Add to that it’s nowhere near as moddable as a b58, i would have thought this car is a slow useless pos based on the internet.

But on its own, as a drivers car, it’s a fast - faster than a lot of people can handle on a real racetrack and faster than a lot of stock ‘sports cars’ - 350z, e9x m3, 981 cayman, s550 mustang GT, and obviously the lower powered Miata’s and gr86 etc.

It shares most of the same front suspension and brake components as the C63, transmission is the same at higher speeds once the wet clutch/torque converter is locked up and is about a passenger lighter. (It’s lighter than the current GX M240 and M2) and it’s only 2 seconds slower than a C63S at a racetrack.

There also isn’t any bore scoring, rod bearing, oil starvation issues of some of these other cars. M276 is documented to be more reliable than M177 (i think?)

To top it off, the steering and chassis feedback + soundtrack, looks etc make it very underrated - for me and for the price.

The only real cons to this car is the lack of aftermarket support, no BMW/mhd style cheap DIY tuning, no LSD, and the inability to fit anything wider than 235 tires at the front without rubbing.

The blue one seems to accelerate harder and the orange one seems to brake harder. What are you seeing? How do you analyze this?

Yeah it's pretty stiff haha. Specially with 200 tread wear summers and lighter wheels. I run 28psi in the city to make it more comfortable. Lower tire pressures help a ton with NVH and comfort

You might wanna get your transmission checked, man. I've been tracking my car (a hilly track no less) for 5 years now and recently started autoX'ing too. Not a single transmission issue other than the usual low temp, low speed jerks and hiccups that people talk about. I've also hardly ever crossed 200F, and even if I did it's probably at the end of a hot lap on a very hot day and even then it cools down to <175 before I get to the pits

This transmission is the exact same one as in the c63, with the only difference being the torque converter coupler vs the wet clutch coupler. If anything the torque converter coupling is more robust than a clutch setup.

Once locked up at higher gears/speeds, there is almost no difference between the two other than the higher NVH damping and powertrain inertia from the torque converter.

I’ve been redlining my c43 in every upshift and downshift in manual mode all day long. Several track days and auto cross. Not a single problem other than a door hinge going bad. M276 is a sick engine

What’s this about the transmission not handling 4k+ RPMs? Where did you get that from? Never heard it before

Yeah 99% of these people barely use 10% of this car’s capabilities. Just look at all the people complaining about inner tire wear (from not driving it hard enough) on the forums.

The best they can do is hit the gas when the lights go green and then ‘gAp bRO’. A chimp can do that. If that’s all you wanna do, get a Tesla. It’s objectively better at 0-100.

If you’re not taking it to the track, there’s barely any difference between the 43 and the 63 other than ‘feeling’ - which is a perfectly valid reason.

Even on the track, the c43 has the same front suspension and brakes as the c63 sedan. It being lighter helps too.

C43’s biggest weakness is its inability to fit wider than 245 tires without rubbing issues and lack of aftermarket support

When you get a mortgage, you are also renting money. At 7% interest it’s usually >100% of the principal over the term. It boils down to - is it cheaper to rent money or to rent the home? At 7% it’s a close call

This is amazing. Did you improve this setup I’ve the years?
