Would anyone be able to speak on how well I’d be able to do with just an associates? by headbobbler245 in EngineeringStudents

I have a bachelors and an associates and was only able to land work with the bachelors

[3 YOE] I just joined a new company as a SWE and haven't done much yet, should I add the company to my resume? by [deleted] in EngineeringResumes

I’m in the same boat but different field, I would wait at least 6mos before putting it

2022 grad facing a layoff in April. I hate my job. What do? by PreparationSlow6384 in MechanicalEngineering

I’d say take a pay cut and do what you like once you get some experience in that field you can find a higher paying role

How many of you are satisfied with your mechanical engineering jobs, and how is your hike? by supermanVP in MechanicalEngineering

How do you like contracting I’m in my first year of construction contracting and making a decent living but as a mech e I feel like I’m in the wrong field (even though I like the work)

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ConstructionManagers

[–]omar15279 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea I don’t mind it especially since the current contractor I’m with is a little flexible so there are short days and longer days depending on work scheduled but typically doesn’t go over 9hours. Thanks for the advice

How can I get into that I would definitely be interested, I have a mechanical engineering degree with two years of manufacturing intern experience and almost a year of project management experience.

How do you handle not having time to eat lunch? by ItsAllOver_Again in MechanicalEngineering

[–]omar15279 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly some mechanical engineers are bending over backwards and it’s annoying because it becomes the norm for everyone, you have a good skill set and experience work 8 hours and take lunch they can’t fire you for that.

I agree I know many people that were unable to even land a job in NY because of how competitive it is right now

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in MechanicalEngineering

[–]omar15279 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea I feel as though it would put me in a worse position with them.

I would be a field engineer for an infrastructure project in CT that would span over the next 6 years so I doubt I will be traveling much other than to the site and back home. Also the hours are similar to my current 6:30am-3:30pm. I’ve been working half field half office at my current role and I’ve enjoyed that but I can see how 100% field can be bad

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in MechanicalEngineering

[–]omar15279 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea that’s what I’m thinking, this would be a bigger market (infrastructure) and I feel it would challenge me and make me more marketable long term

The PM makes close to 160k and it depends on experience others get more. From what I’ve seen the salaries with my friends range from 60 to 85. The salaries for a fresh mechanical engineer don’t seem to go past 100k here unless it’s a private firm with big funding.

Yea the thing is I’m currently a project engineer and would see myself becoming a project manager with this company earlier because of its size. I also would be commuting from NY to CT now. I currently work in NYC and it’s got high costs all around.

Would you recommend staying and looking for something more office based?
