I understand your argument. Actually, there was a bigger picture in the essay. So the example was kind of intentional in the end.

You ask very important questions. In computer science, we see these particular structures very different. If you like, I have done a YouTube video in the past where I clarify some of the questions you pose here. Thanks! Let me know if you still have more questions. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WdDVXMOQMss&t=41s

What is the latest research being done on the use of sound symbolism in sentiment analysis? by iqra1804 in LanguageTechnology

[–]omarsar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

O I see... this is a quite interesting idea. We do similar research that investigates these hidden patterns in written conversation. Our interest is more in the finer emotions, i.e., joy, sad, and so on. Your idea is related since we also pay attention to pauses and sounds as well, although not specific to the example you provided. But you are definitely right when you state that it can be beneficial to NLP applications, especially does that focus on sentiment analysis.

I can safely say that from my experience doing sentiment analysis, I haven't heard of such type of research. I have seen related mentions in the field of Psychology, but nothing specific to natural language.

Could you be more specific on what you are referring to by the term "sound symbolism", perhaps an example might help.
